Hi everybody. I just finished my woodelf team for the dungeon bowl. For the base I used green grain above a snott green undercoat.
My question how to keep this grain at the base while transporting. I'm a bit of afraid, that it will rub of while travelling. Putting clue above the grain would look terible IMO.
What do you experienced guys do? Or don't you use grain at all?

Hm, after painting the whole base green i use wood glue to fix birdcage sand on it. After waiting a few minutes i put some water thinned wood glue on top of it. After drying up some drybrushing follows and glueing static gras at some spots. Thats it... i´m loosing some gras sometimes while travelling, thats all.

I assume grain = flock. A lot of people are now using static grass instead of flock, or a flock/static grass combination. Either way, provided you use decent glue (e.g. wood glue/PVA - as Traveller said) the loss during transportation should be minimal.
As for varnishing bases - if you're using absorbant flock (rather than painted sand/grit) this can soak up the varnish and change colour and flatten down a bit. I apply flock after varnishing, but it's a matter of choice and varnish does help keep the flock on.

I use DW's tried and true method (link somewhere on tbb with a pic). Paint the base g.green, glue (I water it down) modelling gravel to the base, let it dry, then paint it watery scorched brown (so it will run all over and through the gravel), dry brush snakebite leather and then bleached bone. water down glue afterwards, apply to the finished dirt, and apply the static grass (dump the model base into the bag.). Once it's dried, I apply a heavily watered down varnish to keep the static grass from falling out. Works like a charm.
