Painter tape (the kind of tape that has the consisticy of paper) on both sides and then a spraycan will do the trick.
Leave it to dry and then pull the tape off.

but make sure you twist each square 90 degrees so that you get the chekered effect

make sure they are big enuff mine are a bit small 1" , so great for throwing footballsbut mightspoil the game
