man i cant believe how much more i expected - but good effort for people for entering. not mega impressed with much, more a few are much better than the rest.

Seriously, most people entered for the sake of entering, not for winning. Most of us love painting, do a passable job, but still love sharing our work with fellow gamers. I enter Golden Demon every couple of years. I KNOW I'm not going to win, or even come close, but I have something that I am particularily proud of and I want to share it with people. Its the same with this contest. I know mine isn't going to place. But I wanted to participate. Evil Git's done a fantastic job organizing this thing, and entering was a way to support and encourage him. Rant over.

I just wanted to show my support and participate too. I know I'm not even close to good but maybe someone can give me a tip or two. You've seen my entry. I know you like it but I'm just not talented with a brush enough to to it any justice. I like the repositioning of the head, the shoulderpad, and the index finger that appears more of an afterthought than an actual digit.

Now Juck, just so you know, This is a TBB painting comp. That doesn't necessarily mean that we are all any good but it does open us all up to legitimate feedback. Saying something like, There was some pretty good stuff in there but most was pure crap, I could've kicked all of you into the dirt, doesn't do anyone any good and just makes the person talking look arrogant. Perhaps it's justified, likely it's not.

I entered to see how I stood against the other painters here - I don't get out to many tournaments and only started painting again last year after a long break (about 15 years). I knew I wouldn't be the winner, but think my stuff compares ok.

I've written my thoughts about each entry (covers 3 pages!!!) in the spirit of constructive criticism - is it too early to post that?

Yeah, why not... voting period is almost over anyway.
At the moment, I have "already" painted 3 miniatures of my new team, and seeing as this was a sort of excersice (sp?), I am curious about what people think about it... Ill paint it anyway, but I can always use some advise.

Overall I thought that the painting standard was well up on the first competition - the closer I looked at the entries the more quality I saw - lots of figures I'd like to see closer to see what I could learn from them - and that's one of the big pluses of these things - finding new techniques and tricks so that everyone's stuff looks better. Quick comments, and none of the criticisms should be read as insults - just trying to explain what I thought and hope people will do that for my entry.

Entry 1 Not a big fan â€“ canâ€™t really explain why â€“ if itâ€™s modelled from scratch, then well done, much better than I could build. Pics too dark to really show off the painting, good base.

Entry 2 Nicely done â€“ very clean and Iâ€™d like to see the model in the flesh to check out the helmet highlights.

Entry 3 Donâ€™t know the model, so might be not saying nice things about any conversion work youâ€™ve done â€“ found it a bit grey overall to be critical â€“ armour and fur tended to blend a bit â€“ nothing done â€œwrongâ€

Thanks for the feedback....about your "highlight-problem"..I can see why you want to see more hightlights on many figures, because your mini has plenty of highlights (not that it's a bad thing).

Since voting was supposed to end yesterday (I somewhere read April 3, but I can't find it again) I would like to reveal my mini:

Mine is the Halfling player with the name "Marzipan" from my team "Ritter Mord". It was funny when I read that I should do more highlights, because I thought I had too many on there, but for some reason the image is too blue (need to improve my photographer skills). The gloves are black

One thing I really need to work on with my painting skills is the skin tones, so the highlights and the wash don't appear with such a strong contast. But too my defense I have to say (like richred_uk mentioned) it is damn hard to do fine details on a figure that is that damn small. On top of that I found out it doesn't help if your 4-yr old is sitting next to you and painting his own figure (he's doing really great on applying anly little amounts of paint and cleaning the brushes after each color, but he wants ALL of the colors applied on the mini, so opening and closing the paint containers every minute was quite distracting....and no, he didn't care for highlights

Thanks for the comments richred_uk! You put it down quite nice, I think.

My entry: nr. 2, the skaven. The fact that I lost my photoshop-disk kept me from getting a better picture. Then again, this was an excercise, to try a new scheme... There will be a whole team ready for the M@dhobbit-Massacre, or other tournaments I may get to if I will play skaven, so there is a chance of seeing them "in the flesh".
I did not have any illusion to win here, or get in the top 3, I just wanted to show the mini.

I liked your mini, too, but seeing a lot more "better" painted minis kept me from voting. Not that I think it's bad, but some are just better. Didnt really like the gloss though, and dont know about the skincolor... then again, if a whole team has this as part of their background ("dolphins"), it's kinda cool.

Dont know if the results are up yet, by the way... *starts looking*
