I am going to make a stadium and this is my first plan for it.
The trench/ditch is there because i think it could look cool (with bridges to the dugout buildings) and to explain the damage plaers take when being puched off the pitch.
The whole thing is 75 x 95 centimeters (30 x 37 inches).
Any thoughts?

Just common decency and a thorough upbringing of the fans, I'm guessing.
I'm building my own pitch, but it's nowhere near your plan. (quote powerturtle: we don't even have a plan! ) just a field with chequered (spelling?) motif: Woohoo, 15 times 26 squares to cut out, all 2,9 cm square.

What material are you cutting out?
How do you plan to stick them on the pitch?
How do you plan to make the squares visible after you have painted the grass and dirt?
Please share your thoughts.
I was thinking about just painting the squares on the pitch with thin black lines, and of course the outer lines with white paint.

We have a wood board as a base on which we drew out the outlines of the field. We plan to use two colours static grass to glue to the board. This will give a chessboard like effect. Then we'll paint the lines white. (the squares will be easily distinguishable without any extra marking)
Surrounding the pitch, we'll put blocks of styrofoam covered in static grass just to dress up the pitch a bit. It's our first pitch, so not a very complicated design, and mostly we're just experimenting.

It's not unrealistic for fans to have access to the field. Wrigley field was originally built with no wall in the outfield. The fans seating was open to the outfield. No one stormed on to the field then to interfere with play. It is believable enough to me to have them next to the field with no wall or a low wall.

Actually that trench is a rather interesting idea, especially if you fill it with something, either a clear resin for water, which you could then use as the lizardman seats...or add colours and turn it into lave or some other nasty liquid, say boiling blood.
Little worried as to the location of the score/turns for each team, as it's not exactly in an easy to read location for both teams...sort of. But maybe having that section near the dugout like on the normal board setup could work.
Of course having it at the ends one could always come up with some creative representation for them... Hmm...might be rather clever there. Looking forward to seeing the progress!

Even the Goblin coach gets a +1 to injury rolls! Ow!
The grass I got from the Games Workshop store isn't that good. I actually immediately bought a roll of grass from another store (with model planes and trains) which is a lot better. This grass doesn't have rice-paper as a base, but something a bit firmer.
I still have to try how it looks when painted.
