Orc Team: Da Tusken Rayderz

Post by Joshua Dyal »

OK, the pics themselves are really (and I mean really) crappy, but hey, I have them, so whey not share them? I'm still pretty happy with the minis themselves, anyway, and the paint job. Most of these minis are three or four years old, and the paint jobs are almost as old, but some of them are slightly more recent...

First off, the real stars of an orc team are, naturally, the blitzers. Here's my four blitzers in all their glory; using mostly Warhammer and Warhammer 40k bits, picking especially the armored torsos, I added Burna Boy heads (the two varieties with faceplates) and gave them all shoulder pads.

Image

Next, the black orcs. These are all Gorkamorka and WH40k nobs. And yes, I know you can only have up to four of them. :P

Image

I have two throwers, also using Warhammer orc parts, using the hand (with the ball in it) from the boxed set orc thrower, and using burna boy heads (the kind with the goggles.) I particularly like the one who's shouting and gesturing to his reciever to come closer. After all, it's not like the orcs are any great shakes at passing plays...

Image

Line orcs are naturally a must for any team. I have six minis, although I've never created a roster that had more than three, and I make a point to not buy more line orcs as the season progresses.

Image

And since orc teams can have a few goblins, who make almost capable recievers, I have two on my roster. Of course, I have enough minis to field the maximum possible, just in case I ever want to do that...

Image

Since orcs can field goblin special weapons, I made up some conversions for some of them. Here's my ballnchain and my chainsaw. I have minis for a pogo stick and a bombardier as well, but since I don't have any plans to use them yet, I haven't done anything with them except occasionally pull them out of the plastic bag they're sitting in and think about how I'm going to pull off the conversion.

Image

I like ogres. I understand the latest version of the rules tried to say that orcs couldn't have ogres and could only field trolls. To that, I say "UP YOURS!" :) Here's two ogres that I made up for the team that I actually don't use...

Image

And here's the ogre that I actually do use, partnered with the troll that I have used (but who is not on my current roster.) This "ogre" is made from a WH40k "Big Boss" which is an ogre sized orc. That design, along with his paint job, ensures that he looks like a supersized black orc, which was really the point.

Image

Here's my apothecary and coach. Just for fun.

Image

And hey, who wants to use all those st00pid cardboard counters when you could get a handful of squigs to be your reroll counters, score counters, turn markers and the like? Complete with a few herders, 'coz we all know how unruly those pesky squigs can be.

Image

And here's the Chaos Cup. Not that I've won this this season or anything, but I think we'll start the playoffs soon...

Image

OK, not part of my orc team, but I just finished this rat ogre for my skaven team and I really like him. I used a current WH rat ogre body, a current WH rat ogre arm (but one that belongs to a different body) and the archive Boneripper head, with that silly unicorn horn snipped off and replaced with a Kneadatite metal plate.

Image

Image

Again, crappy pictures, but (in my humble and modest opinion) pretty good minis anyway.

Its the sun that is making the images difficult to view properly. They look like they are well painted. Good looking team. I'm sure they look even better in person. Try taking pictures indoors. I'm sure they will turn out even better. Anyways... good job on your team!

Yeah, I'm gonna try them again with various indoor lighting schemes to see how they turn out.

Sometime. When I get around to it. ;)

I look forward to seeing better pics, but I get the idea that you've got a pretty impessive team!

Nice, another fullconverted orcteam ! :)

Hm, difficult to see... most of the picts are a bit to dark to see details. Both maincolors, body and armor, seems quite close, at last at these picts.

Just a minor comment about converted weapon hands. Just a small drill or round cut in the top of a hand, where the weapon was cut (as example your lineorcs), a bit dark green paint and it looks much better ... IMO.

squigs as reroll markers ... maybe more fun as my waterboy at the moment ... hm, seems i still didnt finished my orc team. Maybe i will " steal " this idea

really nice, though agree that the pics are not great, they ought to be bigger..

and for the gobbos hands where you cut the weapons out, I would make knuckle-dusters out of green stuff or using an orc knife finger-guard.. that way the weapon snip is much less obvious..

nice work though, good stuff!

Jealous much? ;)

Don't be I am just Force Sensitive. The system is still a grind. They just mask it with some up front quests now.

I wouldn't play any other kind.

Yeah, the pictures are dark. The colors, however, are not similar at all. The uniforms are various shades of brown leathers, and the metal parts are all a coppery reddish metal color. The orcs skin color, naturally, is green.

Totally agree. Except that I am without the right tool to do that, unfortunately. I'll still need to pick it up.

Yeah, it seemed fun. I'm not quite sure what to do with my other teams, although a combination of Skaven giant rats from Citadel and Reaper dire rats gives me a fair amount of regular ole rats to use as counters. Add in my rat ogre herders as a coach, or extra counter, or something, and maybe I'm good to go.

Mellow greetings Dyal.. :D

I agree with the masses.. the picz are a bit too dark to see all details, or colours for that matter
BUT, by the looks of it.. your team seems very orcish, nice and themed, and I love that you used the 40k minis.. Me likez dem miniz lotz!! :D

then...

-in my mind there are no such thing as to not having the right tool!!
(well maybe there is.. yes, ok, but my point being.. )

-I make make do with my trusty ol' swizz pocket knife..
for bigger projects, i'd go for more specialized tools..

(though my entire plastic human team have encountered 'ol swizzy's blade in various degrees of pose-changes, head and arm-swaps ect.)
But for hands, being ex-holders of weapons (proper english, I think not! :-? )

-A sharp, pointy knife will definentely do the job!

-try it out, watch your fingers, paint and play.. :D

that is all.. adjø..
