The TBB Quarterly Painting Contest Soundoff
well after seeing some of the great pictures from the France Blood Bowl site with their bi-monthly contest i thought, along with a few others, why not have a competition of our own here. So this thread is just to gauge interest for it.
i was thinking of making it quarterly just so that it gave everyone ample time to get something knocked out. also there wouldn't be any constraints on colours used unlike the legacy mini's but each competition would be themed (e.g lineman, blitzers, elf, 2nd ed etc)
So this is just to gauge interest as to who would want to do it. would you all want a prize for the winner or just for the kudos that you are great. anything you actually want to see. list everything that you would want if you competed (or what would make you compete) and we'll try and get this up and running for october (october to end of the year for the first competition i was thinking).
Also to enter you would just need to send a picture of the model to myself who would then host it ready for the judging to begin. judging would be a poll of everyone here.
i think i've covered everything but any questions then just list them here and i'll answer what i can.
EDIT MODE ON
ok then, so the competiton as it stands is as follows...
the competition will run from now until 26 november 2004. that should give you all enough time to think about what you want to paint and procrastinate until a week or two before the deadline (well if you're all like me this is what will happen anyway).
first up is a model of your choice from the phigs miniatures range (available from www.phigsminiatures.com) that really is the only stipulation with regards to the miniature that you have. if you want to do a gnoll or a valkyrie then off you pop and pick one up.
conditions of the paint job will are that you need to slap on at least 3 different colours (just like if it was a gw painting comp). it would be nice if the mini was based but it's not essential.
any other questions, just drop a line here and i'll answer them as i go along, whilst also updating this page too.
oh and before i forget again, good luck to everyone taking part.

In principle I'm up for it... even I can paint 1 model per quarter..
why not make the first competition a "Phigs comp" to coincide with the new humans coming out... would help his sales too!

Oh. I can't paint. I hate picking up the brush but, for something like this I'll do it. there's not a chance I'll win but I'm a part of this community so I want to take part in it. It's all in fun, right?
Oh, not paintshop smoothing your mini. Harsh halogen lighting showing off all the flaws is the only way to go.

I'd do it, but wouldn't expect to come close to winning.

I´d also like to take part in a competition like that and like Norse said it - painting one miniature per quarter should be possible.
I think there´s no need for a prize, just winning and earning the reputation of being a good painter from you guys would do it, wouldn´t it?
Too bad I did not plan to get those humies but it is a good suggestion.

Maybe the prize could be to include them in the "Hall of Fame" listing.

Sounds like a good idea...BUT I would suggest only once or twice a year, stemming from the the poor time management of some painters for the legacy teams this year.
Then again...
1. People can probably use what has already been painted
2. STRICT deadlines and if you miss it...Oh well, and the painter can try to finish up for the NEXT contest (assuming it wasn't a figure specific category...which leads to my suggestion to limit THAT category just for the missing deadline stuations. )
3. Definitely try to help out the 2nd and 3rd party figure companies.
Either way, its a good idea and I HOPE to be able to participate although my images will probably have to be straight off my scanner.

"Don't blame the dice!? Blame the figure which cost you $15.00 on eBay and took you two weeks to convert and paint!!"
