i've just finished painting some yellow and blue dark elves for the bb05. i started with a black undercoat then base coated the yellow area's in a mix of golden yellow orange ink and yellow ink, then highlight this with just golden yellow (about 3 coats) final highlight of golden yellow and skull white, (then skull white on its own if desired) hope that helps??

I start with vomit brown, as it seems to give good coverage, and then layer up to whatever brightness of yellow I require.

I agree with the two above and the comment on the undercoat.
As a converted black undercoater I can tell you it's much easier to primer the model in white and then brush paint the metal/dark areas with black. The colors will be brighter and yellow will be much more manageable.
As for Vallejo paints, never used them but I love his work.
But I really suggest that you try your local craft store and buy the acrylic paint for crafts. It's the same stuff and can be as cheap as 50 cents for a 2 oz. bottle. Even if you don't use them exclusively it pays to buy black, white and gray.

I know that Logical Choice in the ACT (and in Wagga Wagga) stock Vallejo paints.
So too does MilSims (Jedko games) - which does mail order to anywhere in australia. Their website is www.milsims.com.au
Does that help?
I use CoteD'or paints - which are the same as GW paints were back in the early 90's. Their yellow is a little thin but two coats does a good coverage for me. (And I get them at conventions like Leviathan coming up in Sydney on the 23rd & 24th).
