Has anyone bought one of these? They look great, but I'm looking for a testimonial.

iirc the artwork was taken from FUMBBL without permission & used for profit by Comixininos.
It's a pity they didn't get permission for the artwork, because the product looks pretty good.

I got one in a box as part of a mixed trade - again sad about the artwork. They do a range of metal models as well which I would have bought if the product had been okayed at the start.

Here we go, found a post by one of the wronged parties here:
viewtopic.php?f=23&t=40252
WhatBall wrote:... the Magnetic travel board and the Stunty expansion use FUMBBL icons without permission for the purpose of profit. I (and others) spent many, many hours (100s personally) creating those icons for use with FUMBBL. I have no issue with people using them for other clients (e.g. BOTOCS) if they ask and they are free to use. When someone simply downloads all of them, prints them on magnetic tiles and sells them for profit, I have an issue with it. I know harvestmouse was also not asked to use any of his icons, and I know of no other icon artist who was asked either. With the Stunty icons alone, I made over half, 600+, of those icons myself. And here someone is selling them for 15 euros, just by stealing them from FUMBBL.

So, that is why.

Some talk of it on FUMBBL (There was a blog as well I can't find.).
The proper way to ask for and use the icons.

I'm currently under negotiations for getting this permission with the FUMBBL designers of the players (TFF nickname: WhatBall).

In the other hand, the pitch was not designed by FUMBBL.

I'm glad you like the product.

That's right, there are available several Mini-Teams to be used as players with the Mini-BB. You can see them here:

And we are at a stalemate. I can't approve the use of the icons. I only did some of them, and of those, pieces are from others. I can't and won't accept compensation. There are so many other artists involved who I cannot speak for. On top of that, there is the issue that these were done for FUMBBL, and as such, I can't speak for Christer either. Then there is the GW IP issue with making a miniature version of their game, which I am not comfortable wading in to. It is far too complicated to resolve after the fact. There should have been initial engagement with the FUMBBL community to ask permission. There wasn't, this is where we are now. Everyone has to make up their own mind on whether they want to purchase it or not.

To me, this is just another (sadly) unsurprising case of small-scale profiteering by cannibalizing other members of our fractured niche community.

Thanks for your reply to my offer, WhatBall. I honestly think it was a good offer to solve this situation. Of course, I respect your decision. I already did in a previous email, but I will send you another email explaining with more details why that initial engagement did not take place.

At this point, I can only find a solution: temporally put out of sale the Mini-BB and designing my own players. Once that has been done, the new Mini-BB will be on sale again at CXN.

And surely if you were in negotiation at the time, it should have been removed from sale?

All a bit of a shame really. :(

It has been removed from sale now, since I got that reply.

As you will all understand, from now on I will be only talk about this issue with the designers of the players. Please send me PM if you wish. I will not post againg on this topic.

With respect to Apòstol, I got onto other things and forgot to respond to our email discussion. In the end though, I have no authority to approve the use of the icons for a commercial venture.

Thanks WhatBall for your post.

I already made a new design for the players of the Mini-BB. I just sent you an email with more details about it. This new design is handmade painted. Instead, the original design you and your friends made is digital, as you know. Therefore, it can not be said that is the same design. With that said, I wish to thank somehow all the designers involved with the original design. I hope we can make an agreement in that direction. Please let me know.

Is it just me or does that sound like "I copied your designs but used paper instead of a computer, therefore it is not your design any more!"?
You do realize that copying a DVD to a VHS is not making it a different movie?

I really couldn't care less as am not one of those people designing this stuff nor am I aiming at pouring gas in an already burning fire. But to be honest, this kind of thinking alone makes me kind of not wanting to do business with you or your website. In my opinion, this is just a big pile of disrespect for the work of others.

well, actually in regards to artwork, once you change the medium it starts to become a grey area in regards to copyright.

Maybe, but "grey area" =|= "solved issue".

And it doesn't change my mind. Not even a bit.
