stripping, and white plastic painting?

Two questions:
What do the dutch members use to strip paint of metal minis?
and
How do you guys (also non-dutch
) paint white 'plastic' armor?
I'm painting an Elf team, using the Shadowforge minis, and the flesh tones will be blue/green/pink/grey depending on position, with white armor. Some kind of elf substantance, with gold trims. I'm just not sure how to do that white shiny armor. I'm guessing use a white with just a shade of grey as main color, and pure white as highlight?
