I've heard on these boards that Bonehead/Really Stupid players DO need to make their roll to roll over from Stunned. Is this explained in the rule book? I had someone challenge me on this the other day...

Stunned ? Leave the player on the field, but
turn them face down. All they may do for their
next action is turn face up. Once face up, they
may stand up on any subsequent turn using
the normal rules.

This states that turning face up is an action and according to bonehead and really stupid you have to make a roll after every actiondeclaration, so yes they do.

I've never heard of anyone playing RS this way. Has the LRB always had that wording for rolling over? I don't recall 'rolling over' being a 'declared action'. Is it really the intentionof the designers that a RS player might not roll over? I always assumed that the rollover was just clearing the stun not a 'declared action' subject to RS (LRBp26). Though I will admit that rolling players over before moving your turn marker is an illegal proceedure and IP is called "If he forgets to move the counter before taking an action with one or more of his players"(LRBp8)

The declared actions as far as I remember:
Move
Block
Blitz
Pass
Hand-off
Foul
Start chainsaw (hehe)
(Kick, if you use the kicking rules)

These kinds of things drive me nuts. Trying to decipher the 'spirit' of the rule from poorly edited text. (like 40k)

So, is rolling over a 'declared action'?
Either Really Stupid needs to say 'any action' or rolloing over needs to be a declared action.

As far as the fluff goes I'm all for RS/BH guys having to roll to turn over. They could easily be looking at the daisies and could have clean forgotten that they're in a game...

i have a different "fluff" opinion on that:

Rolling over from stunned to prone is just a game mechanic to build a "misses a turn to come back to consciousness" effect, but not a deliberate player action. Stupid people come back from stunned at the same speed as bright ones ...

Forgetting about the game and picking daisies or counting clouds is something they do in prone mode, but not when stunned. So i'd say no BH/RS roll for turning over, but of course they have to roll to be able to stand up.

However, i agree that purely from the words in the rulebook i can argue that you have to roll BH/RS to roll over.

The action to roll over is a move action. It just so happens that there is a restriction placed upon this action in the rules, ie

All they may do for their next action is turn face up

LRB Pg 12

So yes, you do need to roll for BH/RS before rolling over and for that matter roll over a stunned Wild Animal as the first action in the turn.
I have used a Bone Head myself for 4 seasons and failed this roll several times, but hey thats the risk you take with a Big Guy.

2 things:

1) I usually approve of any on-pitch effect that makes Big Guys worse.

2) The BBRC has addressed this many times, and yes you have to roll for BH and RS to go from Stunned to Prone. D'Arguebus has it basically right, its part of a move action.

every league I've played in has required a BH roll to turn over. just thought I'd add that incredibly useful comment

So, in addition, any stunned players on a team featuring a Wild Animal will not be turned if the WA causes a turnover?

(This situation came up recently with three Skavens stunned on the opposing team. That coach was not too happy to accept the new ways of things.)

I am of the opinion that rolling over should not be an action, only something happening automatically at turnover, if not earlier. Although I see the reason in Galak's point on favouring anything that makes the Big Guys worse, I find the view on coming to consciousness even more reasonable.

Moreover, this way of settling the stunned issue doesn't cause ambiguities on whether a player was stunned this turn or not, and doesn't confuse stunned players with players that simply haven't been raised yet.

I agree with you, the rule is stupid. But we accepted it in my league as we aim to be as close to the LRB as possible. Still, it would be nice if they changed it back.
