Undead starting line-up

Post by mamira »

After playing humans, woodelves and amazon mostly, I think it's time to take up undead. I've seen previous (and quite old) threads on picking a starting team, but was not realy satisfied with what I learend from them, so here goes.

I have two possible starting line-ups:

Team 1
---------
2 Mummies
3 Ghouls
2 Wights
2 Zombies
2 Skeletons
3 RR
8 FF

or

Team 2
---------
2 Mummies
2 Ghouls
2 Wights
3 Zombie
2 Skeletons
4 RR
5 FF

I'm leaning towards the first roster because of the extra ghoul (3 of them make them less of a quick kill target I think) AND the 3 extra FF. Big plus on the other roster is the extra RR of course, but the 5 FF bothers me a little ...

What do you guys think?

Oh, and do you have any comments on zombie vs skeletons? What to pick? How to combine? That sort of stuff.

Do Not Under any circumstances start with Three Ghouls with no apothecary and Regen, you'll be running a tight line, and could soon be in trouble. Sure they are your Ball Carriers, but very delicate. For a Starting team, i'd probably only take 1 Ghoul, and first purchase will be the second. I 'd take a third Wight for definite., and flesh (Pun Intended ) out the team with a another couple of zombies. Arranging the FF to suit.

I'd take a max of one skeleton (fouler with higher Mv)...
Both Zombies and Skeletons are too slow to move and their agility too low to dodge, and generally their role on the field will be falling, getting up, and giving assists/tacklezones. AV8 means zombies will do so a little longer/more efficient...

Furthermore I think I started my own Undead team with this:

2 Mummies (200k)
2 Wights (180k)
2 Ghouls (140k)
5 Zombies (150k)
1 Skeleton (30k)
3 RR (210k)
9 FF (90k)

I got 8 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses with them (and won my first 3 games) and was generally quite content with how the team played. Don't be scared to use your Wights as ball carriers too; they also have AG3 and are only a little slower. My general attack strategy was based on the mummies occupying the LoS players of my opponent, putting down as many players as possible and blitzing when I don't need my blitz for soething else, while some Ghouls and Wights were moving the ball around in a loose cage formation. The other ghouls, wights and zombies would help out putting assists/tacklezones on other players and keeping those busy and away from my ball carrier... Worked quite well; the team can be a lot more dynamic than most opponents expect...

I like Redfang's choice. It's what I usually start with. Won the tulips with that lineup too.

Zombies or skeletons doesn't make too big a difference; it's either more AV; so that the player stays on the pitch longer, or more MV.

I prefered the AV, since I'll often use my zombies to get hit instead of other players. If you want to use the zombies/skellies somewhere in the moving part of your offence, skeletons would be better...
It's really just what you're planning to use them for that should influence this choice...

Also; expect lots and lots of money to flow in; After the eleven matches I now have a full squad, and 5 (that's 2 new) RR! (and a TR of 189; last match it actually went down as a result of buying a new RR!)
First I'd buy a new wights; then I a Ghoul, then a wight, then a ghoul, or alternatively I'd get both extra wights and then the Ghouls...

I like having them for the extra mobility so they can keep up with play better. 3 zombies for the LOS where they'll get whacked, and a spare.

2 skeles to sit in the backfield and help the wights & ghouls get the receivers. Skeles pretty much drop out of the playing team once you've got 4 wights (which I'd put as the top priorty for purchases).

I love wights and mummies - they are the most important players in your team. I have played 9 games with my Undead Team and so far 7 wins 1 draw and 1 loss. My first lineup was...

2 Mummies
2 Wights
2 Ghouls
3 Zombies
2 Skeletons
3 RR
9 FF

Left 30.000 in bank for next player - bought a 3rd mummy after the 1st game. Regeneration is great, but so is necromancy - Within those 9 games, I killed 7 players which all joined my team ;)

How could you get a 3rd mummy, if mummies are 0-2???

Here's what i do:

2 Mummies 200k
4 Ghouls 280k
3 Zombies 90k
2 Skeletons 60k
4 Rerolls 280k
9 Fan factor 90k

With 4 rerolls and 9 FF, you're well set for the long run. Wights are good but badly overpriced, so i just buy them later. You can easily get a ghoul with blodge after game one, so that's your blitzer right there.

What I don't like about that list is 4 ghouls. Av7 and no regen just make these sitting ducks - and once they are gone at best you've got AG2 ball handlers. Wights are slightly overpriced (you are paying 40k for regen and Block) but are a lot more resilient than Ghouls.

My leagues tend to be quite tackle happy so the dodge doesn't help you live too much longer, and Block Av7 is worse than Av8 for surviving.

I agree with Ian, 4 ghouls is far too much.

And Zombies are better than Skeletons aswell, I feel they fit into the Undead style of play alot better.
