Nah... I'll pray Crom as I always did.
And I've just found out there's an additional problem if I start with a trollslayer: There's Balin but no Dwalin!
Anyway, since I'm not so fond on the huge fan factor thing either (thougth I like it better when it's high than when it's low), I may be following Thads' advice. Or I may stay with the original, as I've already wrote it down (I use to write down the team so I have all the players named before I buy them).
Erm... I guess I should told you before... the league I'm joining with this team is the LABB ("Liga de Amigos del Blood Bowl", which stands as "Blood Bowl Friends League"), an online open league with a high specter of TR and teams.
Finally, I've named the Dwarves in my team after the guys in The Hobbit (ooh... thats SO original  ), but I still need two more names (the 13 dwarves that travel with Bilbo + Dain makes 14, not enough for the complete roster).

Try the Silmarillion for a few more dwarf names.

Well... The Silmarillion was a bit too dense for my taste (But I read it nonetheless). However, I've been checking the Lord of the Ring Appendix book, and guess what? The father of Oin and Gloin was named Groin (poor Redfang, and he tried to make a joke with that). I don't like to call Cimli to one of the longbeards as Gimli deserves to be a position player, but he's too young to be other thing than a Runner, yet the runner positions are occupied by Fili and Kili (I guess he and Balin will be the Trollslayers). As for the last one, it will be Frerin, Thorin's brother.

But back to the team, How should I play with:
a) My original roster?
B) Thads'/Ian's suggested rosters?
I know it should be better if I made my questions a bit more specific, but I don't know who'll be my rival 'til I play, so some guidelines on how to score (namely, how to cage properly and some backup plans in case the cage fails, as well as Thads' "Dwarves can pass" tactics). I think I can handle the defense myself, but some tips on how to cope with the lack of movement will be welcome.

Thorin's dad gets named early on...Thror I think? you could use that as a name.

Playing Dwarfs...well, I've got a Playbook style article in the works for my site...but while you wait for that (it'll probably be a few weeks yet because of holidays)...

Longbeards: Frontline - hit folk with them. Try and shield off as many opponents as possible from your point of attack.
(skills - Guard, Mighty Blow)
Slayers: clear the way for your attack on offence, hitmen on defence going after paticularly large or dangerous opponents, alternative, open a gap for a blitz.
(skills - Mighty Blow, Tackle)
Blitzers: Fullbacks/safeties. Your last guys in defence, the guys who seal off the last couple of defenders on offence, also emergency ball carriers.
(Skills - Tackle, Guard)
Runners: Ball carriers on offence, assist givers on defence. Equally good in the backfield as blitzers once they have block.
(Skills - Block, Dump Off, Pass)

On defense if you are playing against a dodgey high MA team (skaven, wood elf, etc.) Put the longbeards back by the endzone. I mean almost all of them too. You want to use Tackle on those players and not Frenzy! if you are playing against Woodies or Skaven or something put the blitzers and troll slayers on the line if you have to but keep the longbeards in the back. A good idea is to put them about 2 or 3 squares up from the end zone and then put some more about 6 or 7 squares from the los of scrimmage. This way no matter where the pointy eared little receivers stop you have somebody with tackle to pound them.

I´m wondering ?

What is with the out of the Box team:

2 Blitzers
2 Runners
2 Slayers
5 Longbeards
2 TRR
7 FAN

I for my part need 2 Slayers because there are two sidelines. (Not mentioning the endzones)
If he thinks he knows what i am doinge i just change sides and build pressure on some players near the sideline.

And Dwarfs are damn slow. There the two slayers come very handy.
Your runner have a movement of 6 but your cage moves at an average 4.5 fp/t (Fields per Turn).

But the Problem is that everytime i need aguy with tackle there are only slayers available. especially for blitzing blockdoge whimpies...

Thror is Thorin's grandfather. Thorin's father is named Thrain.

I've played norses before, so I know the problems that cause having two frenzied guys on field (not to mention four), so I want my blocks to be more reliable... This means that a Block/Tackle longbeard will fulfill this duty rather nicely. I can get my trollslayers lately. Also, since it is an open online league, the boxed set isn't of primary importance.

I have a little question here actually, about the Ogre.

I played Dwarf a bit last season, and plan to start with a new team now. It was only 10 games, but it was fun, and I didn't lose any of them. The new season will have about 20-23 games, depending on how I do in Playoff.

The question is, do any of you use the Ogre, if you do, when does he come in the team?

Is he really worth it? (League is about even on AG and ST teams)

Ogres are good value for money. However Dwarves have expensive players so its difficult to put a balanced starting lineup that includes an Ogre. e.g 9 Longbeards, 1 Runner, 1 Ogre, 9 FF, 2 TRR.

However longer term Ogres are excellent for Dwarves - backed up by all those Guarding longbeards you'll be getting lots of 3 dice blocks - and it really helps against those strength teams that can resist Dwarven blocking.

If you really want one try to get them as the 13th/14th player on the roster.

This is absolutely right on with what I do, as well. They don't need one even if the other teams have one but an ogre fits a dwarf team like a glove.
