HE team - LRB rules
Thinking of entering a "nd team into the LRB Challenge League and I leaning towards entering a HE team. If you don't know the LRB CL is using LRB rules only, no huse rules.
This is what I'm thinking about:-
1 Dragon Warrior
10 Linemen
3 RR
5 FF
My basic thinking behind this is that rather than the positional players hogging all the SPP's, my linemen will pick them up and will gain some badly needed skills (Block, Dodge, Tackle[?]) while I get the money needed.
My 1st purshase will be an apoth, followed by a Phoenix.
Anyone any thoughts or suggestions?

I'd drop a reroll and add some fan factor - Will help with purchasing new players. Upgrade a line-elf to a phoenix warrior (9 FF) or lion warrior (8 FF)
Of course you'd have to remember to ensure you rotated passing duty through your line elves and didn't let the phoenix warrior hog it all.

I started a team recently with
2 x Dragon
1 x Phoenix
8 x Line elf
2 x TRR
6 x FF
It has worked pretty well as I've got skilled line elves and my purchased Lions are still awesome.
Normally I'd use a line elf to pick up the ball and make a quick pass to the Phoenix who would them make the longer pass himself next turn.
I may be tempted in the future to drop the Phoenix and take the extra point of FF and a line elf instead.
I'd strongly recommend starting with higher FF than 5 - against FF 7+ you aren't going to win many kick off rolls and losing them can seriously hurt your team (A pitch invasion or Get the Ref isn't nice with 11 expensive players).

Run a search..there's a thread on this somewhere.
ian's line up is actually 'accepted wisdom'. I started my MBBL Helfs like that (after Chet's advice on the mailing list) and I believe matyn started his MBBL2 team that way as well. It's tried, tested and pretty popular.

Yep, I started my MBBL2 team with the lineup given above by Ian. I had the advantage, however, that we were playing under the rules which gave elf teams an extra re-roll.
However, to achieve three re-rolls with high elves now you either have to do what was suggested originally or have only line-elves.
In the end, I'd say go for Ian's lineup. First purchase should be an apothecary, after that probably a pair of lion warriors, and then another re-roll.
(With dark elves, I might risk the 11 line-elf, 3 re-rolls strategy, since they have expensive throwers, but probably not with high elves.)
Cheers,
Martyn

OK, I'll go with Ian's suggestion, but should I take his 2nd suggestion (drop Phoenix, add lineman and +1FF) or his 1st sugggestion?

Entirely up to you...
If it was a Delf lineup and a 20K difference..then lineman all the way. The fact that's only 10K or 1FF led me towards the Thrower. Pass helps you win games early, there's no question. Then again, the fact that it's an open 'challenge' league means that it's not so crucial to be ultra-competitive from the off.

Thanks for the reply, guys.
It's the 1st time I'm playing the HE's other than in a one-off game so the inputs gratefully received.
I'll obviously make some mistakes with this team (my last major team was Norse) but I want to be competitive, so, if I meet any of you in the LRB Challenge, good luck, and my you always roll skulls
