Orc Development V3

Post by grinn »

Hi everyone, my Ogham League team is doing well - progressed to the premier and butchering teams in every match (6+ CAS in the last 4 matches). Still taking a while to score but that's orcs for you I guess. So I have two big skill ups that I wanted advice with. Here's the whole team:

#8 Bima – Black Orc – Block, Guard, Mighty Blow
#11 Barri – Black Orc – Block, Guard, Mighty Blow, -1AV
#9 Zibel – Black Orc – Block, Guard
#10 Muntun – Black Orc – Block, Guard
#6 Mintoff – Blitzer - Block, Tackle, Mighty Blow, Dodge, Stand Firm
#5 Gonzi – Blitzer - Block, Tackle, Mighty Blow, Piling On, Frenzy [SKILL UP - STANDARD]
#4 Agat Argh Barbara – Blitzer – Block, Guard, Mighty Blow, [SKILL UP - DOUBLES]
#7 Fred-Ugh Sant – Blitzer – Block, Guard, Mighty Blow, Tackle
#13 Imangul – Lineman –
#2 Kazz Ahmar – Lineman - Dodge
#12 Zeppi il-Hafi – Thrower - Sure Hands, Pass, Accurate, Strong Arm
#1 Grotlu One-Eye – Thrower - Sure Hands, Pass, Block, Kick Off Return
#14 El Buzobb – Troll – Mighty Blow, Guard

So I need to pick a fifth skill for number 5, Gonzi. I ve been crying for a doubles but it didnt happen so now I m a bit stumped. The only think I can think of is Stand Firm to avoid being pushed out into the crowd. Any other ideas on how to make him extra-hurty?

then there's number 4 Agat Argh Barbara. I was going for tackle (although maybe 4 is too many) but with a doubles it seems like a waste. Default choice would be Dodge. Any other ideas?

PS: Facing a lot of amazons/elves, some norse and 1 chaos/1orcs in the division.

Thanks!

Grinn

If people use wrestle or fend getting juggernaut on the killer would help a lot. If not get guard or stand firm.

4 tackle sounds good to me, and you say there's lots of elves/amazons so that points to tackle. How is dodge working on the other blitzer?

Nicely developed team, really. How many games in is that? I also marvel at such an even spread of SPP. Do you get to chose the MVP in your league?

As for the skill choices:

#5: Stand Firm all the way, goes perfectly with what he has so far.

#4: Tough call, probably Dodge since you have some already. Otherwise, Side Step would be very nice as well. You could also metagame and skip the doubles for Tackle, but I think three instances of Tackle should be enough.

Actually, the more I think about it, I feel you want more positioning skills in there. So maybe Side Step is the better choice for #4 after all. Also, I'd love to see Stand Firm on BOs #9 and #10.

We dont get to choose our MVPs - its the Cyanide game league so that's standardized from the game's side.
The team is 2.5 seasons in (around 18 games). I made a massive effort in the first season to give SPPs to BOs. On several occasions ran a BO up against soft teams who was left unmarked and then I passed to him and scored. With a good thrower (which I developed straight away) and a spare re-roll, its not as dumb a strategy as it sounds. Dont do it anymore now that they ve grown up of course.

Sad thing so far is the lack of characteristic increases. Got 3 +1 AG on the BOs which I obviously didnt take early on and then Nuffle's skill-up dept snobbed me.

With regards to the other Blitzer with Dodge - he s been really effective. Combine a Blodging orc with Stand Firm and Tackle and he's a royal pain in the arse to most teams - not to mention the MB return if they dont knock him down.

Regarding BOs 9 & 10 I was torn between more MB and Stand Firm but I think Stand firm is the way to go next. Like you said, the team needs more positional oomph.

How would SS be useful for the blitzer with MB and Guard? Just to place the Guard in tactical places when needed?

How about jump up with the doubles followed by piling on? I know you already have a POMB piece but the opportunity for a JUPOMB is there. If not Dodge is the obvious choice (and likely the best choice).

If you're interested in the option of a passing game then I guess catch could work too.

Hey Raveen, I do quite a bit of passing with the orcs. When thinking of the Jump Up option it felt like a good option but would need two more skills on him to make it worth his while - PO followed by tackle. Of course he DOESNT have to have tackle but it helps massively in my blodge infested league. On the other hand two PO pieces are sexy.

Hmm...

Assists with cage breaking, sidestep next to ball carrier etc and just being a nuisance to the opposition
