Strategies vs Chaos
Hi,
I have Chaos in my next league game and need some strategies for taking them down.
The team they will have will be 3 warriors (all block), 7 Beastmen (1 with extra arms, a couple of block) and 1 str 6 mino. 2 RR.
I am playing necro, 2 x blodge wolves, 2 golums (1 x block), 2 wights (both guards), 1 ghoul (surehands), 5 zombies (1 x block).
How have you guys gone about taking down the chaos?
Cheers

Re: Strategies vs Chaos
I'd try to feed a non-block zombie to the mino and drag him away from play. Use the WW to isolate, blitz and hopefully remove the Chaos Warriors.
Alternatively try to suck him into the sidelines and use the golem/ww combo to surf all his players (taking care to avoid the mino).

I'm on a 5 game losing streak atm, and could do with some advice on how to turn it around!
Thanks

Re: Strategies vs Chaos
Try to make sure you keep at least one wolf free to blitz each turn. If you can hit a CW, great, if not take down a BM.
Try to get your FGs in front of his cage, but don't seek contact.
Try to keep the MN away from your key players. You might want to set up Frenzy traps though, but that could be hard against ST6. If the MN goes down, foul him.
On offense, keep probing his defense. You can move laterally faster then he can - at least with your ag3 players.
Try to draw him into a sideline battle on either Defense or Offense - with Frenzy and SF you will win.
Also, do NOT try and score fast. You don't want to score in 3 turns and give him 13 to grind you down.
On paper I'd say you are looking good going into this match. He has no tackle or guard.

My strategy is to beat low TV Chaos unbelievably easily because they have almost no skills. When they have a Clawpomber kill him at all costs. It's not rocket science beating a team with very little Block or ballhandling skills.

Re: Strategies vs Chaos
Cheers guys,
Admittedly with no ball handling skills but plenty of block and only 2 RR it should be a case of keep out of his way allow 1 block per turn and let himself destruct with bad dice rolls.
The idea of removing him off the sides hasn't passed me by and I will try to surf as many people as I can and set up a Golum-wolf combo. With only 11 men as soon as I can get an advantage on man power I will try and outmaneuver him. Score and win 2-0/2-1. Mobility is the key here and keeping men on the field. If I can do this it should be ok.
I just seem to have a difficulty with Chaos. I don't know why but they seem to brain freeze me.

Re: Strategies vs Chaos
Upset their blocking with Wrestle, stops them doing blocking the next turn, nevermind...
Put distance between you and their players, maybe with a light screen which requires either to go around or to knock down.
Always blitz the ball handler (even when they do not have the ball - decision required to weigh up odds).
Use the FG to anchor points. Let them bash up zombie scrimage and if they advance they sit next to FG and Wights.
I would go as far as to ditch defending the wings and see what he does.

w = wight
W= Werewolf
Note either Wing can have a F, w, g and 2W pounce on it.

Re: Strategies vs Chaos
I play Chaos, a lot. So I'm going to approach this from the other side of the fence.
If your opponent is smart, and gets the option, he should receive. Chaos wins on a 2-0/2-1 grind so He'll want to score late in the first, while doing a lot of damage, to come back in the second for a defensive touchdown.
1) If he's smart, he'll ignore your zombies. They are not fast enough to pose a threat, and at strength three he wins the blocking war.
2) He needs to get rid of your wolves early. Given they have Block/Dodge he's going to need three dice blocks, looking for a pow. With a ST 6 Mino, that's not hard. Keep the wolves protected on defense, blitz with them, and then get back under cover.
3) Your Flesh Golems are slow Chaos Warriors. With him having Block, expect your FG's to spend time on their butt. If he's smart he'll hit them, and move past them, they are too slow to really keep up after a turn or two on their backs.
Basically, you have a moderately strong Necro build against a poor Chaos build. Protect your wolves from the Mino, and be careful you don't get surfed as well. If he scores late in the first you have two options. You can score quickly with the wolves, and hope for a defensive touchdown or the tie. Or, my preferred method, let him receive, ignore the Mino, and target the Extra Arms beast. That's his only really viable ball carrier. Especially with two re-rolls. Get rid of that beast, and a warrior or two, and you're on your way to a win. Don't worry about the defensive touchdown in the first half, just keep him from scoring.
Start of the second, go for a four turn score, turn it around and play tight defense. It's not rocket science. Necro are really strong against Chaos, protect your wolves, feed your zombies into the blocking war, and go for the win.

Re: Strategies vs Chaos
Agreed, except you can receive and still target the X-Arms Beastman. Having said that, in this match-up, if I were the Chaos coach, I would use a Block Warrior to carry the ball, and use the X-Arms Beastman as a roving receiver.ignatzami wrote:Or, my preferred method, let him receive, ignore the Mino, and target the Extra Arms beast. Re: Strategies vs Chaos
Possible, I've had horrid luck trying to run any sort of passing game with my Chaos. Even if I have a re-roll, and it's a quick pass, I still hesitate. Even at AG 3, he's running a risk with picking up with the Warrior. If he blows a re-roll early on the pickup he's in a rough spot. This is one of the reasons I take Sure Hands over Extra Arms, that skill re-roll can be clutch.Smeborg wrote:Agreed, except you can receive and still target the X-Arms Beastman. Re: Strategies vs Chaos
I have the same policy with Nurgle - I take Sure Hands first in order to preserve TRRs. Having said that, however, some of the most difficult Chaos teams that I have played against have had a couple of X-Arms Beastmen Receivers (of course the main ball carrier had S-Hands as well).ignatzami wrote:Possible, I've had horrid luck trying to run any sort of passing game with my Chaos.
