Underdog skaven with 700k inducements vs HE : what to pick?

Post by the.tok »

Hello everyone !

Third round in the same league where I am a massive underdog each game :D

My team is a tv 1030 skaven :
2 Storm Vermins
4 Gutter runners
1 Thrower
2 Linerats
1 Linerat / kick
1 JM Linerat
3RR
1FF
1 Apo

His team is a 1730 tv High elf :

1 Thrower Accurate, Dodge, Sure Feet, Strong Arm
1 Blitzer Dodge, Sidestep, +Ag
1 Blitzer Rookie
1 Catcher Wrestle
1 Catcher NOS, Block, Dodge, Sidestep, Fend, -av
1 Catcher Block
1 Catcher Wrestle, Tackle, Dodge
2 Lineelf Wrestle
2 Lineelf Rookie
1 Lineelf Kick

12 Players
3 RR
1 Apo
9FF

What would you pick if you were aiming for a win?

Glart, with Block + Claw + jugg seems quite appropriate, seeing the amount of wrestle he has... but I'd like a bunch of tails too, and outmuscling him could be done

I have several options :
Rat Ogre + Wiz + Skitter + Glart
Good blitzer, one BG and two tails, stab for the 6av freak
or
Headsplitter + Wiz + Glart
or
Glart + RO + chef
Something else?

What do you think? :)

For me: Headsplitter+ Wizard + Glart.

My reasoning as follow:
-not fond of Skitter, stab is an hit and miss affair, and with St2 he's a weak link (another weak link, after your Gutter Runners).

-The Chef is tempting. That team got only 4 Dodge, hitting 'em on the rr can be useful... then again, it's an unreliable trick you cannot trust.

-Overpowering him would be my choice. If you can force him to dodge a lot, sooner or later he'll run out of rr.
Headsplitter is far better than the R-Ogre because you can move him without wasting your blitz. So the Elf is forced to mark him with some lineman and you can 3d him at leisure, else Headsplitter will "play the Kroxigor" and wreck his plans with his Ma6+Tail. Whatever his choice, Glart does the tactical blitzing.

Wizard 150k
Two babes 100k
Fezglitch 100k
2 bribes 200k
good karma or 2xdirty tricks cards 100kgp
magic item card 50kgp

If you receive, you cage up behind your midfield line and use fezglitch to knock elves down. You need 5 rats for a cage, fez doing his thing and the remaining 5 rats to foul or attack targets of opportunity. Foul early and often. If you use up your bribes, so be it, but you need to go after the non-blodgers and anyone else that Fez puts on the turf. If you can get two or three elves off the pitch, you should be golden.

If you're kicking, you hold fezglitch in reserve and go balls to the wall in an attempt to sack the HE thrower. Pressure hard, mark the catchers and foul, foul, foul in order to prevent the stall. You want to either turn him over and score quickly or force him to score quickly. You do not want to defend so doggedly that he scores after holding the ball for a while.

The point of the cards and wizard is simple: mind games. Always look at your cards before each turn. Save the wizard for defence and lightning bolt the ball handler in his own half.

In an ideal game, you hurt and KO a few elves in a long first drive or use the wizard to snatch a defensive td. Thereafter, you play counter attacking defence and force the elves to make plays around files of 2 rats. Foul like a bastard. :D

It's a tough ask and that's why this is a high risk/high reward strategy. If the armour rolls don't come for you, you could get blown out. But if they do you should have a shot at a draw and an outside chanc of an upset win. Good luck, and if nothing else, try to hurt an elf. :D

Difficult to go against Headsplitter + Wiz + Glart but you might wanna take a merc PO/Jugg\guard Rogre instead of Headsplitter and get Fezglitch too. Main problem with that is that you then have two main blitzers - Glart and the Rogre and given Glarts reliability you should really be using him which risks the Rogre doing nothing.
Fezglitch is great if you win the toss and receive, less so if you kick.
Depends how much of a gambler you are-go the safe Headsplitter route or the more risky Fezglitch and Rogre route.

Well, I went Headsplitter + glart + wiz... and it didn't turn out so well : lost 4-2.

Headsplitter started great on offense (I received first), not so good on defense

Glart was really great, block + jugg is good against wrestle lineelves. He's a great blitzer, I'll take him again I think !

The wiz... I rolled a 1. Enough said
