The trick with Guard players, is to never work alone.
It may seem like simple advice, given the skill, but make sure that you ensure it. Kee the guard player in the thick of the action.
I have a neat trick. Given doubles on the Blockers, I give them dodge. Why? Keeps them standing. If they're standing then they have the ability to lend more assists. I find that the Blockers are best in one large group holding the line of scrimmage, or at most, in two groups over the wide zones. Don't split them up into pairs. It's too small a group to be using the guard skill effectively.
While I don't mind the idea of keeping the players off the LOS to keep them standing so they can lend assists next turn, they are also valuable in preventing decent blocks on the LOS scrimmage that first turn. You are effectigely giving up one square on that opening kickoff. If you have multiple guarders they can work in 'chain gangs' to ensure that there's no way to pick them off.
There's teh short shots - look for an official Chaos Dwarf guide from me soon in BBmag (just gotta do my artwork).
