Re: Advice on play style for starting Vampires
I have one Thrall that scored a TD in the last game who is one point from a skill so I'm planning on giving him Kick. After that, I was thinking Wrestle on normals and Guard on doubles...

Put leap on your vampires and kick becomes very deadly....

Yeah... I will have to think long and hard on the AG5 vampire's next skill... Both Block and Leap would be fantastic. Block will get more use but I can imagine Leap REALLY catching people out.

I'd go for dodge. You still dodge in a TZ on a 2+ and dodge might even protect the vamp, if it get's blockedJ_Bone wrote:Yeah... I will have to think long and hard on the AG5 vampire's next skill... Leader on one thrall would be okay as wellJ_Bone wrote:I have one Thrall that scored a TD in the last game who is one point from a skill so I'm planning on giving him Kick. After that, I was thinking Wrestle on normals and Guard on doubles...

Do not get clever. Leap is for after strip ball. So two more skills away. Dodge now.J_Bone wrote:Yeah... I will have to think long and hard on the AG5 vampire's next skill... Both Block and Leap would be fantastic. Block will get more use but I can imagine Leap REALLY catching people out.
Blodge them all then specialise if you want to.

J_Bone, it's easy to become overeager with Vampire's skills: they are so good, and they have so many choices!Heff wrote:Do not get clever. Leap is for after strip ball. So two more skills away. But keep in mind that Leap is a tool to defeat screens and cages: Vampires already got Hypnotic Gaze, the best cage opener in the game (no turnover for failure), AND you got an ag5 player, that in many situations is better than leap. I can add that Leap can leave a Vamp isolated from his thralls, a situation that can lead to disaster.
Cages aren't your problem: risk management is the Damocle's sword of the Vampires.
Well, these are my 2c :p

I have to agree - leap is an unnecessary skill for vamps but I can see it having its uses if you're only planning on running four vamps so gazing through defences is tougher. Otherwise its just an additional roll to fail.

Haha! I see what you did there...glowworm wrote:Not a great "leap" for you my friend....J_Bone wrote:I think I can manage that.Heff wrote:Do not get clever.
And yes, I can totally see what you mean with hypno gaze... Every single opponent looks at me when I use it like a dog that's just been shown a card trick.

Also, I'm planning on picking up a fifth Vampire as soon as possible... I'm 20k short at the moment so I should be able to hire him after my next match.

Re: Advice on play style for starting Vampires
Funny, an ag 5 elf would be leaping in a heartbeat....
I like the ability to leap the line and pick a loose ball.... It also becomes a situation that your opponent must always plan for....
It is also a great visual of the vampire turning to mist/bat as he sails through the air....

I would Blodge up the Vamps u have before adding a 5th, they may be not so easy to manage.

That was the image I had... Just swooping out of the sky to kick somebody in the face and then run off with the ball. Dodge will definitely get used more but lacks that thematic feel!Digger Goreman wrote:It is also a great visual of the vampire turning to mist/bat as he sails through the air....

Re: Advice on play style for starting Vampires
What would you say is the ratio of Thralls to Vampires you'd recommend for a 5 Vampire team then? I'm at 8 now (once my MNGs return). I was considering getting more Thralls before buying another Vampire but my TV is already set to go through the roof. I'm the highest in the league by about 50k and giving away inducements.Jimmy Fantastic wrote:I would Blodge up the Vamps u have before adding a 5th, they may be not so easy to manage
