I understand.

I don't know if this is enough of a reason for me to want to take it, but it is a good point.

I hadn't realized quite it's significance until my current game in the MBBL2 where I have lost half my re-rolls due to having a TR some 80 above my opponent. I also rolled double skull for the first block in the first two turns of the second half. So I've got no re-rolls left now and I'm really missing them. Once you've got two Guards think about getting a Leader and then continue with the Guards afterwards.

In long term team development I consider Leader a waste unless you've got a BG.
Ultimately you ought to be able to afford all the TRR you need (4-6 depends on race) so by taking leader you are gaining a short term advantage (free TRR) in return for long term penalty (not having that double on something useful).
I'd not say that Leader was worse than Guard in the short term - in fact if you intend playing less than ~20 games with the team then go ahead - it will make a valuable contribution to the team, and possibly a marginally better one than Guard/Dauntless.

Four re-rolls isn't that many when halved to two by a Handicap Roll.
