My starting vamp roster is slightly different than fen's and moogul's....
2x Vamps = 220k
9x Thralls = 360k
6x Rerolls = 420k
It may seem a little aggressive but here is my rationale - 6 rerolls allows you to be VERY aggressive on the pitch right off the rip (at least as aggressive as you can be with vamps, depending on how many 1's you roll on the Lusts) which I've found to be critical to success with a young unskilled Vamp team. When NONE of your thralls have skills, you need to take some chances during the game and 6 rerolls per half let you do exactly that.
I wager to not get an apo since the way I look at it, I have very nearly a 50% chance to roll enough to buy one after game 1 anyway (a 4+ on winnings is enough as long as I either won the game or got the +1 FAME... I need 3+ if I got both, or if I got neither then I need the 5+ pure). Thralls are cheap enough to replace anyway at 40k apiece, and the Vamps have Regen as a safety net if something goes horribly wrong. Just play smart with the vamps in your first game to protect them and you shouldnt have a problem. Now if any thralls DO get injured... who cares? The only thing you care about anyway are 5+'s on the CAS roll, BH's you can live with and MNG's are replaced by journeymen. Take journeymen for your first few games while you let your MNG's come back on the roster, or while you save up the money to replace any of them you may want to retire if they did take stat downs. Use the injured thralls (and the journeymen thralls) as snacks for any failed Lust rolls and you can keep the team on a fairly even keel.
Yes, it may not be a style suited to all players since it acknowledges the fact that you may be playing man-down at many times during your games, but I'm 5-1 right now in my current league having started off with this roster and my opponents included chaos, dwarves, norse and Orcs (my sole loss was an OT battle with the Orcs, and he won the kickoff there).

OGRE TEAM - 1 mill.
5 ogres
6 snotlings
2 rerolls
4 fanfactor
the only lack is rerolls, ogre nr 6 comes fairly quick,
but i thought about starting with:
4 ogres
7 snotlings
4 rerolls
2 fanfactor
since rerolls become so dahm expensive ingame (140k), and are usefull from day one...esp to awoid the 1´s on bone head, and to compensate for the lack of ball picking...

Re: Woodelf Starting Roster
As the guy who wrote that strategy guide, I'd have to agree with that. Wood Elves still want a decent FF because it's good to win the fame rolls, but 8 is probably excessive even for them. For LRB 5, I think my new recommendation is 2WDs at the expense of 5FF.Warpstone wrote:You probably want to trade in the FF for rerolls or more skilled players in LRB5.howlett wrote:Woodelves Starting Roster
10 Lineman
1 Wardancer
RR 2
FF 8
(from "Winning with Woodies" strategy (originally designed for LRB3))[/b]
2 WD
9 Line
2 RR
3 FF
But I don't have nearly as much playtest experience with that either.

Orcs:
I went:
4 Blockers 320k
4 Blitzers 320K
3 Lineman 150k
3 Rerolls 180k
1 FF 10k
1 AC 10k
1 CL 10k
The plan is to skill up the blitzers ASAP and hope for a view Cas on the Blockers and lineman so that they can skill up as well and then I can start to add a few Gobblins, Trolls or throwers.

Yet another Norse option. Our league started with 1mil, and each coach is allowed 4 pre-season open challenge games before the season schedule is set and begins. This team W3 (vs: Flings, Dark Elves, Khemri) and L1 (Chaos Dwarves) in pre-season. In the lost game just about every reroll I took failed, resulting in many fast turnovers! I'm looking forward to the rematch. And I like rerolls while they're cheap for an AG3 team -- I'm quite happy with the way this roster is working for me:
Norse 1 Mil
6 Liners
1 Thrower
1 Runner
2 Berserkers
1 Striker*
4 ReRolls
10k in the bank
I'm glad I didn't spend the last 10k. After Game 1 I had enough money to buy an Apo, and after Game 4 just enough for a Snow Troll. Regular season play starts in March, can't wait.

I would vote the ideal Dark Elf starting roster is:
2 Blitzers (200)
1 Witch Elf (110)
8 Linemen (560)
2 Re-rolls (100)
Treasury- 30K
Buy an Apoth after that first game!
For me, Witch Elves, while potentially risky, are worth it due to the threat of crowd pushes and Dodge.
Assasins are not all that useful for their price compared to blitzers and Witches, so should not be on the starting team. (Unless you want them because they are fun!)
Personally I abhor the new Dark Elf runner on a starting team, as Dump Off implies my AV 7 piece is about to get hit without Block or Dodge to protect him!

I am using this in an 11 game league atm and am very happy with it. TV is now 1.34M after 5 games (3-0-2 record) and each game has been very close and enjoyable... have added a catcher and a thrower and FF is now 3.Mootaz wrote:Pro Elves 1 Mil:

My Skaven Starting Roster were always:
6 FieldRats
2 Gutter Runners
2 Blitzers
1 Rat Ogre
2 Rerolls
1 Apothecarion
FF 0
30k Banked ^^
As Skaven you can raise your FF fast enough (no Game under 2 Touchdowns ^^) so you can buy new skills, Upgrade a FieldRat to a third Gutter Runner or save it for the next best player ^^

My Dark Elf start up was
3 Blitzers
1 Witch Elf
7 Lineelfs
2 ReRolls
Or drop the WE for another Blitzer and 10k in the bank. I Don't get more than 1 Runner or Assasain but do get two Witch Elves.
