That's my sentiment as well.
yeah but just to play devil's advocate: as soon as you find you no longer use the leader rr very much, start playing your leader on the line. Set him up opposite the chaos warrior or the minotaur or whatever. If he dies he dies.
I start my dark elves with 10 linemen. the fully developed team only needs 8 (2witches, 2throwers, 4blitzers)...that means AT LEAST 2 guys are going one way or the other.

Are you saying that a coach should build a player for the purpose of sacrificing that player?

Not exactly...what I'm saying is it's ok if a few of your guys take skills/traits that are only useful for a while. eventually you'll have to lose some of them anyway.
if you take leader, get use out of it while it's useful to you, then when it isn't, dump the guy. no worries.

You've definitely got a point there.
I guess I prefer to develop my players for the long haul assuming that not all of them will make it.

well, so do i, generally...but there are times when exceptions can/should be made. I think leader is a real useful skill for young elf teams, but later on it's not nearly so important. that extra rr can really save your neck sometimes when you only have 2 or 3.
