Rolled doubles on a long beard 1st skill

Yesterday after a quite easy match against high elf (win 2-0) I had two exp. rolls, one of them, my second runner got +1 mo, now my two runners have mo 7; the other, a LB got 2+2 so now I must choose... My next match is against lizardmen (he has 1 st5 saurus, krox, and 1 ag 4 skink on his team, but will come with a maximum of 10 players). On my team I have 2 trollslayers, 2 mo7 runners, 2 blitzers, ogre, 1 LB guard, 1 LB (doubles), 3 LB, 7 FF, 1 RR, apo, 1 ass. coach.

Dodge! He doesn't have too much tackle, right? Dodge will be extremely useful - at least my dodge longbeard has done extremely well against such opponents - just like my dodge blitzer...

The merits of dodge have been listed in several threads, and they apply to LB's too.

Dauntless might be an option too. Or stand firm.

StandFirm

(I was thinking about some other thread with that Dodge bit, sorry. A Dwarf Runner or Blitzer should take Dodge on a Double tho)

I added dodge to the poll, but I'm not sure if this is the best option... I want long beards to stay on the scrim and make the cage, so at first sight guard or stand firm are the best options, I put diving tackle just thinking about a player who waits back for fast elves, avoiding 2+ dodge rolls from this girlie players. Dodge will help the player to avoid being blocked successfully but is going to be pushed and this don't help to keep the cage "alive" and not to mention is a lot more useful stand firm than dodge when trying "in extremis" dodge rolls with a LB.

He has AG 3 so he can consider Dodging.

Stand Firm. No question.

Stand Firm - then when he's a guard too he's a real pain in the #$£!

Dodge isn't worth it yet, but if you get another double I reckon it is.

 really sounds grest but you need 3 upgrades and 2 doubles rolled, all without fail on aging roll... seems really difficult for a player who only gets spp from blocking.

Well, all you need is a double at 16 or 31 and he'll be there.
Not that long odds really.

we usually play short leagues, i'll be happy if 75% of my players get almost one skill and keep alive.

Of four skill rolls on my LBs thus far I got three doubles. Two went to Stand Firm (who will be getting Guard if they ever get any more skills). The other was a second roll for a Longbeard I'd started off with Mighty Blow. I considered many things...Stand Firm, Side Step, Dodge, ignore the Double and take guard, Kick...but eventually, after a suggestion from the board (Chet I think) went for your other option after Stand Firm: Dauntless. Useful against all those Saurus to have a third player with the skill. Also useful against Orcs, Undead, Chaos Dwarfs etc etc etc.

Thadrin: not bad, I haven't thought about dauntless, this could help me on our league... We have 2 lizards, 1 undead, 2 orcs...

Before Stand Firm was a trait I would have voted for Dodge, they may not be able to actually Dodge that well but it makes them damn hard to knock over and if they do have Stand Firm they can try to Dodge fairly risk free so the re-roll might be worth it.

Under the new rules I would always go for Stand Firm, with Dodge as a second skill if another double is rolled and Guard if not, makes the team a real pig to play against.

Dauntless is nice but Dwarves already have access to two players with Dauntless, I would only want more if I was playing in a league that consisted of a lot of strength teams.

Why isn't side step in there? I'd rate it second after stand firm, and only because stand firm also helps in dodging.
