My next match in my current cyanide client league pits my Necro team versus a Lizard team. The teams are as follows;

Necro
FG: Rookie
FG: Block, Guard
Wight: +AG, +AG, Guard, Dodge
Wight: +AG, MB, Guard, Tackle, SF
WW: Block, Dodge, MB, PO, SS
WW: block, Dodge, MB, Dauntless
GH: Block, Dodge, SH
GH:, Block, Dodge, Guard
Zx2: Wrestle
Zx4: Rookie
4 RR

Liz
Krox: Guard, Break Tackle
Sa: Guard, Block, MB
Sa: Block, +ST, MB
Sa: Block, MB
Sa: Block, MB, Break Tackle, Dodge
Sa: Guard, Block, MB
Sa: Rookie
Sk: +ag, +ag, Bock, Leap, Sure Feet (League MVP)
Sk: Block, SS, DT
Sk: Dodge, +Skill Up
Skx3: rookie
3 RR

Looking at this match up, neither side has much tackle, but both sides have a lot of damage skills. His star Skink is almost unstoppable.

Normally with an offensive force like that I'd kick, presume he will score, and try to win 2-1 or 3-2 via turn management. But with that much MB he could easily win the attrition battle.

So I'm thinking instead that I should elect to receive, given the choice, and try to knock out one or more Sauruses with my WWs - and try and score on turn 8. Then, focus on defense on the second half if he tries to grind, and offense if he does a quick break through (which would be tough to stop).

Thoughts?

You have clawmbpo wolves!

I'd be rather scared of those in the lizardman teams place. I wouldn't waste blitzes hitting skinks..kill the saurii with your wolves.

Personally, I'd try and tie 2-3 saurii up with the golem, and the krox with a zombie. If he has to use the kroxigor to move, that's 2x 2+'s for him to actually use that break tackle to get free. If he does that every turn, there's great chances for a turnover for you.

Basically, I think my plan in your place would be "operation kill team". 2 highly maneuverable guarding wights and a killer wolf can pick the saurii off individually if they get separated. Start with the block guard mb ones, don't waste blitzes on the dodge saurus. If you get a shot at the st 5, take it!

If he keeps all his saurii together in a big mob, making it hard to pick them off, then tempt him by threatening the skinks. Break the tackle mb wight round to go and hunt the skinks and force them to break off...he'll probably try and get them to safety, and once he's spent a turn concentrating on the skinks, his saurii will be broken up a bit and you can take shots at them.

If you can get 2-3 saurii KO'ed, the attrition game is yours. Just don't overcommit to killing skinks, he's got enough of a bench to render that a poor tactic.

Good god, an average of 2-3 skills on each Saurus and a skink like that?

How many games have these teams played? It must be well over fifty.

As for advice, he's clearly developed his sauruses to be killers and not BB players, so just mark them with fodder or screen them from the action. The skinks may be fats and dodgey, but with only two break tackle the rest of the team will be very predictable and easy to pin in place. Let your wolf-killers go after the one with Break Tackle primarily, as that and his krox are most likely going to be the two pieces that play safety while he's on defense. Take them out and his defense will crumble.

Otherwise, stomp on that AG5 skink if you get a chance.

Both his and my team have played about 30ish games.

In fact, we played last year in the playoffs too. It was a pretty awesome game where the deciding play was my star WW shrugging off a mark and taking down his star Skink in the open field to save a TD....2-0 Necros. I got a CAS on the Skink too...but only a BH.

The skink has something like 32 TDs - he is obviously the team's #1 weapon on offense and legitimately the two time time regular season MVP.

I have an almost identical lizardman team(lost my st 5 break tackle tackle block mb saurus last game), and I love it when necromantic coaches try that stunt. By keeping your saurii tight together, you can usually ensure at least 4-5 MB blocks on zombies a turn...usually KO/stunning at least one zombie a turn. Combining that with blitzing the squashy ghouls, and the opponent runs out of players quickly. His big weakness is that without tackle, he can't take out important targets. Regenerate keeps your team alive, not the drive alive.

Lizardmen teams rely on their saurii to control the position. You will find it harder to kill the dodging break tackler with your wolves...it will take some luck to pow him. It's a lot more reliable to kill the regular saurii, and the apothecary is likely to be saved for the +st or the break tackle one. I'd also add, ensure your wolves don't get tied up by the Kroxigor.

The more saurii that get KO'ed, the harder it is for the remaining pieces to dictate the situation. If you can get a couple off early, then you usually see a cascade effect of more falling.
