I've searched through this forum but havn't found any posts regarding how to create a (good?) Halfling team. I also did one myself, but have a hard time to use this huge pile of 1000k.

I know there are ppl out there who know how to create the standard Halfling team. Would anyone like to share their knowledge?

My first try was something like
2 Trees 220k
13 Halflings 390k
4 RR 240k
9 FF 90k
Appot. 50k
Save 10k

I do know that you could freeboot a few Halflings for the LOS. Save money for the Master Chef. But I have only played them once so Im asking for help here :D

The master chef should be the mainstay of the team therefore you should leave 100k or 150k free for freebooting him during the initial matches.

So you have 900k to spend:

2xTreemen : 220k
3xRe-Roll: 180k
1xApoc: 50k
9xFan Factor: 90k
12xHalfling: 360k

Would be my suggestion.

i started mine with as many halflings as i could take...i reccomend taking one ogre instead of one of the treeman that way you'll always have some big guy the 1st half.

The only problem with getting the ogre is its cost: 240k for a big guy no matter how good the big guy is is just not worth it.

i don't see anywhere in the rules that it says the halflings have to buy big guys at double price...its only star players so he is only 120k

Its a BBRC correction.

Ogres used to cost double under 3rd ed - but it got missed out of LRB.

The only things that can be freebooted are magicians and starplayers in LRB 1.3

No this isn't right. You can freeboot any players as long as you have the appropriate space on your roster.

Correct you can definitely freeboot players, I just freebooted 3 Halflings for my next match so I could field 11 players.

And Ogres DEFINITELY cost 240k to purchase for Halfling and Goblin teams. Jervis and the BBRC were very positive on this one. It will be a Q&A from the rules review, but on this one I already know the answer.

I stand corrected, obviously didn't read the league section well enough.

Now call it unorthodox, but I've had some luck with the following starting Halfling roster:

2 Treemen
Freeboot Deeproot Strongbranch
10 Halflings
4 Rerolls
9 Fan Factor
Apothecary
10k treasury

Save the Apothecary for your Treeman, do not use it on a Halfling unless its like Turn 7 or 8 of the second half.

Remember that Deeproot can use team rerolls. Make sure you use the 3 on line defense/offense to minimize the damage to the 'Flings ... for the entire 2nd half, odds are you'll have 3 Trees on the line. For your first game don't GFI with the rookie Trees unless critical you need them to be available at all times and helping your opponent knock them down is not a good idea. Try to keep one Halfling always next to a Treeman on the straight (NOT a diagonal) without being in an opponent's TZ. This will accomplish two things ... one: an ST 3 team can never get more than a 1 dice block on the Treeman without blitzing away the defending 'Fling. and two) it means that you always have one or two players ready to be thrown downfiled if the ball comes looses for a handoff followed by a Throw TeamMate Pass play.

Also never end a turn without dodging away all your 'Flings. You basically have a 90% of success with a single dodge roll by any 'Fling so try to make sure all you leave your opponent is a blitz action if possible.

Finally, this roster has the following effect. Its gives you a powerful start, and means that your 2nd game will most likely be played with a +2 bonus to the gold roll. At the end of the first game, you should be able to purchase 2 extra 'Flings which should put you in good shape for your next game (50%+ odds) and hopefully by having such a strong Treeman line, you'll have SPPs and not too many hurt 'Flings for your 2nd game.

I've had good luck with this kinda gutsy play roster, so its just one possible recommendation.
