Chaos Dwarf doubles skills on BC and HG
I managed to roll doubles on a Hobgoblin #10 and a Bull Centaur #8 after my last game and these are the 1st skills for each player. I need advice on what to take on each one, I have been toying with Dodge on the BC and Hail Mary on the Hobgoblin, although Guard or Dodge seem more sensible for the HG. My team can be found in the link in my sig, both of the players have a skill picked currently, but it can be changed before my next game.

Dodge on the BC if you are playing a reasonably long league. To be followed by B-Tackle. If you are only playing a few more games with the team, B-Tackle is better.
Hobgoblins like Dodge, too.

Agree with Smeborg.
I have a blodge, sh hob as my ballcarrier and that is REALLY nice. Imo, guard is for your other players and hail mary.... well to get use out of that, you need to bring a lot of catchers near the opponents endzone and that is not likely for chaos dwarves.
Bulls need block and break tackle in any order first, dodge would be the perfect skill #3, so long term - go for dodge, else block or bt.

Dodge on a BC is nice, but only if you're gonna play enough games to get him to his third skill; without both Block and BT, it's relatively useless.
On the HG, if you're into 'theme' at all, you have to give him 'Sneaky Git' on general principle!
Might not even be a bad idea on a purely tactical basis.
Also, you might consider Leader, if you didn't start with 4 Rerolls already, and if you can stand the idea of a Hobgoblin 'leading' your Chaos Dwarfs!
Otherwise, Dodge and Sidestep will always be good ideas, but boring. HMP might be fun.

Dodge for both or neither. It's very good, but it's best if you take a lot of it. Side Step is good on BCs, but only comes into its own on 31 SPP, after Block and Break Tackle: then, it's super-annoying. Guard is good on Hobs, but will get him killed. MB is an okay option for a Hob too: you'd be surprised how nice it is to have yet one more. You can also give your Hob Pass, which is occasionally nice, but more fun than good unless you give it to a guy who already has KOR and/or Sure Hands.
Not recommending it over a good skill on a rookie, but Sneaky Git on a Hob who's already got Dirty Player isn't as bad as SG is cracked up to be, especially if you're a tactical fouler and don't like to load up on assists when you could be playing football: you can foul at just a few assists and decline to use DP if you don't break AV... this is especially nice as Hobs are good utility players and you don't want to waste them getting ejected.

Dodge for the BC is nice, and as mattgslater said, if you take it on the BC, you have to take it on the hob too, because otherwise he will attract tacklers and you have just wasted a skill.
Sidestep is an alternative, though I would go with both dodge

Leader on the Hobgoblin might be nice. It depends on how many RRs you currently have - I know some Chaos Dwarf builds are light on RRs to start with, and saving 140,000 (and 40TV) on another RR means you get to that 2nd Bull and Minotaur all the quicker.
HMP on a Hobgoblin also isn't terrible if you don't mind the fun of it and plan to use it on the defense. Getting the ball free and then to a HMP hobgoblin would let him chuck all the way to the other end of the pitch. Will take opponents a long time to get down there and start moving the ball again, usually. Couple that with the fact that you've got Movement 9 BCs, and you might even be able to beat some of the really slow teams to the ball. But, it's very situational and more of a punt. You won't typically be in a good spot to actually try passes with it, as you'd have to basically throw to an already formed and unmarked cage to have a reasonable hope of someone coming up with it or it landing in a well-protected spot.

Personnaly, I would go Dodge on the BC and Dodge or Pass on the Hobgoblin.

Thanks for all of the advice, I have gone with the rather unexciting but safe option of Dodge on both players.

Well in their very next game with their new skills my Bull Centaur faired well although never got to use Dodge and the Hobgoblin was injured with a -1AG and promptly retired.

Good for him. An AG2 Dodge Hobgoblin can still fight, so now that he's a retired Blood Bowler he'll get some respect in his post-football life. Heck, he could live several more years... or not.wedge22 wrote:Well in their very next game ... the Hobgoblin was injured with a -1AG and promptly retired.
