4th skills on humans...

Post by SBG »

Blitzer: Guard, Mighty Blow, AG4

Thrower: AG4, Accurate, Strong Arm.

Both regular skills. I was tempted by Stand Firm for the blitzer. Do I absolutely have to go with block on the Thrower ? In five games this season, nobody reached him!

Thanks !

Fred

I'd go SF and Block, yeah.

Block is the conventional safe option, but since you manage to keep him out of harms way, I don't think you have to go that route.

From your post I assume you keep him backfield and only go forth to pass the ball down the field. In such cases an interception may be of bigger concern to you than a blitz, so safe throw is a possibility. It goes well with the 4AG.

If he is already good enough as he is, you can take leader to help with your team value.

Other options are NoS and dump-off, but I would take block before any of these.

If you throw alot... Safe Throw

Blitzer... Tackle

Keeping the Thrower out of the way means you won't need block.

BTW do you have a second Thrower, maybe he can have kick :)

Safe Throw on the thrower. It opens up the passing game so much more and no one will be able to stop you from getting a 2-Turn TD when you really, really need it that quickly (though rolling some 1-reroll-1s might still stop you).

For the Blitzer, I'd say Stand Firm or Tackle are reasonable choices. If you find yourself caught up in big, messy scrums frequently, then I'd go Stand Firm as you'll want his Guard locked in place.

How do you use the blitzer? Is he your ball carrier or is he just a mobile blitzer that can happily dodge away to make a crucial blitz? If the later is more to the point then id go tackle (depending on the other teams in your league of course) or stand firm.

As for the thrower? Id take block, purely because my awesome thrower who had strong arm and accurate died on a both down result :blue:. But thats just me :P . Have you thought about kick off return?

@smurf: I do throw a lot, so Safe Throw is very tempting. But I also play against a very developped Chaos Dwarves team (whose coach has already promised to run him down with his Blodging/Break Tackling Bull Centaurs!), a very developped Slann, and a very developped Orc (all 200+ TV).

@van der vaart: he's actually both ball carrier and and dodging blitzer to assist/and or blitz. And I do hesitate between SF and Tackle.

I already have a Mighty Blow/Tackle Blitzer, so I don't know about a second one.
(My two other blitzers are Mighty Blow/Piling On/ Jump Up (yeah baby!), and Dodge/Guard.)

Second thrower then. This first thrower comes on to do 'the pass' then sits out the defence.

If he wants to come for him then protect him.

Just for the record: Stand Firm and Safe Throw.

I'll buy another Thrower right away !

Thinking out side the box... as I do.

The second thrower's skill route could look like this:

Kick (giving the linemen the freedom to do their stuff - wrestle/dauntless etc)
Nerves of Steel
Doubles: Sure Feet and Sprint if luckly
Of course Accurate etc.

The idea if the ball is in a TZ the thrower can grab it and toss it away. Having lots of movement helps.

For a defensive thrower like that I quite like the idea of Hail Mary Pass instead of NoS. So you could go with Kick and HMP and he can then grab a loose ball and lob it up the far end of the pitch regardless of tackle zones and without risk of interception.

That's one theory. Mine was, to throw out of danger to receiver and form cage. Hence NOS allowed the throw inside TZs.
