Stick with 5 ogres?

Hi all - any ogre coaches are especially welcome.

I've been considering for quite a while to cut back to 5 ogres on my developed team.
Am I crazy?

Here's my thinking.
Generally, as my team has developed, my performance has declined.
In games where I've been ogre(s) down, I've done better than expected.

The ogres just don't seem to pull their weight. 200TV guys losing their TZ, forgetting their action and punching holes in the air. Not only that, but they suck up rerolls. And when I field all 6 ogres, I end up either facing really good teams or sucking on a wizard for an all but guaranteed loss.

I figure: I've just had a developed ogre injured.
Firing him is 20TV off. Then I'll cut a reroll, since fewer ogres means less bonehead. Add in a snotling and I'm still at 16 players for 25TV less.

Is this doomed to fail?
After all, nobody uses 6 vampires....

Cheers
Martin

I would always take 6 ogres when possible.

Vampires eat their teammates when rolling "ones". Ogres loose there tackle zones and are back the next turn to hit the crap out of your opponent. So that is no compare.

I have played some matches (30+) with ogres and I always look forward to the point where my 6th ogre joins the team.

On the 24h bb in January I will probably play TV 1250 with 7 ogres!!!!

You have to go with 6. It sucks that you can't go to 7 or 8 but you have to take the ones you can, it's the whole point of your team.
People do take 6 vamps, one of the best coaches and the best vamp team on fumbbl - http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=team& ... _id=644044

Take this thesis to its logical conclusion: cut them all and go all snotlings!

Right. Looks like I'll be going against conventional wisdom then.
I'll let you know how it turns out. Can't be much worse than the season I just had.

I know that the ogres don't eat their team mates. But when rolling down pitch I'm often forced to move all of them, and it's only a matter of time before I blow enough bonehead rolls for my cage to fall apart. Sometimes I'd rather just have a (DT) snotling.

The two AG6, one AG5, and one STR5 Vampire I'm sure have something to do with that. WOW!

I think if you're comfortable with only five ogres, give it a shot. You're right that giving up a Wizard will almost always spell a certain loss, as having that ogre ball-carrier (or cage) zapped near the end of drive will almost ensure you won't be able to recover and get to end zone.

In my experience I want to have all the 6 available Ogres, 1 of them might be MNG, KO, or Seriously Injured, but the other 5 remain on the pitch.
Another point in favour of having 6 Ogres is Bone-Head: if one or two should fail a Bone-Head roll I still have 4 Ogres to block/move with.
The third reason is that I want the MVP on my Ogres, not on the Snotlings, with 6 Ogres is more likely that one of them will get the precious MVP.

A consideration is that a minimum of 5 Ogres are needed on defense to prevent slaughter and/or an immediate breakthrough. Since it is quite easy to put 1 Ogre in the dugout, 6 are needed to ensure you have 5 for defense.

Hope that helps.

Even with a load of DT snots? Sidestepping and dodging to exactly where you want them? Tackle makes things difficult, but not impossible.

Snots are very easy to break...

I like to skill the other ogres up before adding the 6th

My only time trying ogres was in fumbble black box(TV match making) and my performance suffered drastically after getting the 6th ogre. :D

6 Ogres would be a lot easier if the Ogres were a bit cheaper, 10k at least. I found 6 was harder than 5 because at that level of TV you encounter teams where everyone has skilled and your unskilled Ogre was something of a liability. Of course You can still encounter those teams but hopefully threaten them with a wizard or similar to give yourself a bit more of a chance.

Hi all,
thanks again for your comments.
I just had to disagree with this one:
Take this thesis to its logical conclusion: cut them all and go all snotlings!
So, anyone not using 4 catchers on the human team should just go with 13 linemen?

My gut feeling is that some ogres pull their weight, but the 6th one doesn't.
Cheers
