Good match up vs Lizards?

Hi all,

my regular opponent and I play in a small league. 2 persons, soon a 3rd will join. We do some swithcing with teams now and then, but we decided to start some new teams.

He choose Lizards. The 3rd guy will very likely take Undead.

The big question: what team ' should' I choose to have interesting games? I was thinking:
High Elves,
Underworld,
Amazons,
Nurgle,
...

Dont know wich one, I have most of the teams (well, the interesting ones I guess ;)) so there is plenty to choose from.
I did consider Chaos Dwarves, but I am afraid it will all end in a big bash fest and, personally, I am not a fan of playing mbpocl or whatever it's called if I play _friends_. Online or in a tournament however...

So, any ideas? I dont want ' walk-overs' too, so no Woodelves. And I've played the Darkies a lot, too. they're also out.
If I play elves then I want to field those nice, clean, freshly painted High Elves to take the field....

Ideas please :) !!

JaM

HE or Zons will match up the best.

You can dodge away from his Saurus and crunch those skinks.

Elves will have a large advantage over Lizards.

Initially, your speed and flexibility will be too much for his immobile sauruses and too-weak skinks to deal with effectively. By the time he actually develops some things like Side Step / Diving Tackle skinks (to help defend against your offense), most of your team could have Blodge while his sauruses will be lucky to all have Block, and maybe even some Tackle or Guard. By this point, your Blitzers will likely also have Tackle and perhaps Mighty Blow and will, therefore, be ruthless skink-hunters.

Sure, it's not as bad as Woodies (unless you start taking some Leap and Strip Ball, in which case it's just as bad), but it's still a rough, rough match-up for Lizards.

The best and most exciting match-ups I've played as lizards have been against humans, surprisingly. Chaos is a pretty interesting match-up, though Nurgle gives up a lot for Disturbing Presence and it's less than optimally useful against Lizards, who aren't going to try to move the ball around much once they've picked it up. Necro and Undead should be interesting too, as long as they are willing to grind (the lizards can score much quicker than either undead team).

Amazon and Underworld I don't have much xp with, so I'm not sure.

I would take Amazons or High Elves vs Lizardmen.

Allright, looks like High Elves are out. I want to have fun matches, for me as well as for him.
Undead is out, too. If friend nr 3 is joining us he will play Undead. I dont want to play the same team as him.
Necro... I've tried, but I dont think I can stand losing another werewolf. :( Having not too many guys with movement (as it felt to me) really hurt me. Maybe later.

Amazons, not sure. I think they are too... fragile. But I hear people say it's one of the easiest teams to start with, so perhaps I'll take a shot.
Underworld looks good too, but I dont think they have either the movement or the str to do it.

TBH 'zons give you a massive edge over the lizards. I'd probably go for something more neutral. Humans or Orcs would be good, and I really don't think High Elves or Elves would be too bad (its not like you get as much blodge as quickly as Woodies or Darkies). If he's fairly inexperienced the variety would be fun too.

Vampire! :P

More seriously, Underworld should be fun at least, Amazon will be strong (no tackle in sight on the Lizards anytime soon) but boring, Skaven should be interesting, Humans are always a decent matchup.

You could always use the Amazon team minis as a generic human team. That should provide for some pretty balanced, fun matches against Undead too if that team joins the party.

Why, because of all the dodge? Then again the AV is only 7, and their movement isnt that good. Him not having tackle soon IS a bonus, though. Then again his players are as fast or faster..!

Leaning towards Underworld at the moment. If i feel I get smacked too muc, I'll see if I can get some players with claw and keep the Saurii at bay.

I could go 'normal' Skaven though, or would that be a boring match too after a game or 3-4?
IIRC, Lizards and Skaven do have a bit of a history in the WH fluff.

Oh, the possibilities! :-? 8) :D

Amazons are considered one of the best teams out of the box.
Don't let their low AV fool you: they have AV 7 but Dodge spam makes them hard to knock down.
They really struggle against Dwarfs and Chaos Dwarfs, because they have a lot of Tackle.

I think you should go for a tier-1 team against lizardmen and Undead but I also understand that you're not looking for anything that would totally dominate those opponents.

How about pro elves? They're a lot of fun to play. They're very competitive against both Undead and Lizardmen, but they provide your opponent with entertainment too due to those AV7 linos. Everybody usually comes out happy when there's pro elves on the pitch.

The only reason to stay away from them is if you can't handle dead elves. But if that's an issue for you, then it's something you should be working on to get over anyway. Dead elves are a joy. Only topped by dead dwarves (high fives all around!) or -ST clawpombers and -AG wardancers(make them cry over having to retire their babies).

I think lizards without any block or tackle, ought to struggle against a team where everyone has dodge. By they time he's got a few block you'll be mainly blodge - and be getting Guard which starts to negate his strength advantage.

Skaven should be good since you've got a good mix of teams with different play styles (Undead, Lizards and Skaven).

Ullis: I can handle dead elves, no problem. I love them , I even want to raise them, oh wait... :D
Nah, I dont mind dead players. I've had my share of deads, only time when I was kind of bummed was when my ag 5 WW died. Dunno if he tripped or something, but recovering with Necro can be hard. And playing agains a developed chaos team makes it harder,...

Anyway: Yeah... Matt and Ian, I can see what you mean. I could always switch to them if things dont work out to my liking, who knows.
Skaven it will be, my first 'love' :). Good to take that 2nd edition team out of the display, and will give me more pressure to finish that RO (and put him on a smaller base) and the rest of the linerats.

Thanks all! Skaven here we go!

'Apocalypse Meow' is once again ready for the pitch!

And thanks to Hoomin' for letting me steal the name all those years ago ;)
