Why halflings...?
Just seen some really great looking halfling figures on Pedro Ramos' website.
However...
Is anyone able to tell me why anyone would want to play halflings...?
I can imagine that when the rest of the figures are produced that they will look ace, but I just find it so difficult to look past the fact that on the pitch they break easy and are frequent visitors to the KO'd and dead/injured box.

You have to be pretty hardcore to be taking them FTW because unless you are very skilled and lucky you are unlikely to be routinely getting wins in a tournament (one of skilled/lucky will get you some wins). The enjoyment is in the game, if you desperatly want to win don't take them. If you want to try every facet the game has to offer, bring out the Stunties, leave behind pre-conceptions (including you won't win, because you can) and just see how far you can get.

Plus the look on the oppositions face when you pull off that TTM score to go 2-1 up with 2 turns to go, especially when they have a "proper" team...

if you build short on your team you can play 3 trees, that's kind of cool

Re: Why halflings...?
Half the fun playing halflings is ruining the game for the opponent. So, first of all you always want to have a TV at least 100k lower than your opponent. Why, you ask? So you can hire a Halfling Master Chef. Less re-rolls means more fun. -For you, of course!
Second, once the opponents' TV start rising, you just sit back, hope for the best and wait. Wait, oh so long, untill you can finally(!) hire Deeproot Strongbranch. Fielding three treemen - one of them ST7 - stealing you opponents re-rolls: It doesn't get any better than this. At least not while playing halflings.
But, are you gonna be winning, now? No, probably not. But you'll f*ck up his play due to your chef and you may just maim some of his favourite players, as well. And once in a while - not often - but just once in a while, you'll actually win a match. And when you do: Dance, baby! Giv'im that Les Grossman dance full on! This is what you've been waiting for. This is why you've been suffering for so very long. This is your moment!!!

Why halflings?
Because your waiting to finish your goblin team.......
But really, why not? As others have said the challenge of playing a stunty team ( unless its got 5-6 St5 guys like Gazza's Ogres) replaces the challenge of winning the game or even tournament. The whole concept is fun, competitive but fun and on those rare occasions when the 2 dice uphill go your way it's golden.
Also I believe that playing stunty teams helps you with aspects of your play like positioning and defence, they are fragile so protect them, they are slow so positioning is very important, so concentrate on what you need to achieve and prioritise accordingly. But most of all be ready to laugh when the Little guys fail the easiest tasks ( picking up the ball for example) and next turn kill your opponents mino!
Give em a go, I think you will be suprised at the enjoyment you will (should) get from the game.

Re: Why halflings...?
Played flings for a season at the ECBBL. Almost the most fun I have ever had with my clothes on. no apo, players you don't care about. loads of inducements and occasionally you can do THIS
(match report of a game v very developed necros)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Zara the Slayer, having warmed up with success against the Khemri, turned up today with aplomb and almost turned this into the Zara the Slayer show!!! Undead armour meant nothing to the angry woman with stakes.
Turn 1 - a thrown halfling scatters, and lands on Klnthquaztor's head - the newly added wight, putting him in the cas box and -1MA, having failed his regen.
Turn 2 - Zara the Slayer KILLS the only skilled zombie, who failed his regen.
Turn 3 - Another zombie badly hurt, who failed his regen.
Turn 4 - Yet another zombie, -STR, who failed his regen.
This was not a great start for the Detritivores - one cas per turn for the first four turns. Despite all of this, they had the ball and managed to wiggle around for the score, trying to get the knocked out players on, but all three KO rolls failed!
Luck however swung the other way, and the Detritivores were able to wrest control of the ball, with experienced werewolf Zorh-Zatha able to scoop up after a failed GFI, and hand it on to Sabhugo, who was nervously watching the movement of the rookie werewolf Fagamo Brainstain. A handoff later, and F. Brainstain ran it in for his debut touchdown.
The second half saw the Haggis Hurlers lose control of the ball - feeling buoyed by the touchdown, F. Brainstain blitzed into a pocket, frenzied a halfling out, caught the bounce, and dodged into a TZ twice before running to safety between his golems. He bought enough time to prevent the flings from scoring.
The game could have been rather different if Heff's dice didn't let him down at crucial moments - such as the chef only taking one reroll the whole game - clearly the Detritivores weren't enamoured by the smell of fresh Caesar salad!
Good game poor result, or from Stigs view Torrid game good result. Induced chef+deeproot+zara+babe. As well as the 4 non regen casualties I also got 8 KO's 6 of which did not return.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
and STILL lose 2-0
Flings are fabulous as opposed to Ogres, who are fun at tournaments but torture in leagues.

Re: Why halflings...?
I have played Halflings, Gobbos and Ogres in tabletop leagues. While I have worked out how to get "decent" results with Ogres and Gobbos, I enjoy playing Halflings the most of the 3 teams.
We have a small number of "hardcore" Halfling players, they are great fun to have in a league, everyone enjoys these games.
Hope that helps.

Re: Why halflings...?
I love playing halflings sometimes they do amazing plays, last year even won my first three games on a 4 games tournament and had the norse guy playing against me almost finished when I forgot what team I was playing and didn't scored for the draw when I could,...! sniff (unfortunately all 4 players I played where none naff so I still have them "unplayed" at the naff).
Anyway my favorite ever game play as well happened with halfings, perfect defense treeman alone, touchback, ball to the treeman and 3 turns latter TD with the treeman in the middle of his swarm of halflings that protected him somehow!!
Some of you would say that's imposible 12 mov only in 3 turns, but the guy playing against me did hit the treeman and I didn't used stand firm on a push so I could get that extra square I needed to be in range of 4 for a TD!!

Re: Why halflings...?
I'd say if the only goal would be to win, then dont take halfings, they're not for you.
BUT if you prefer a challenge, are interested in learning more angles of the game, then take a stunty team.
They will lose, sometimes there is nothing you can do as they seem to simply evapourate from the pitch, but sometimes, by nuffles will, and some good positioning, well you can upset some really good players

I have played 3 tabletop games with halflings. I can honestly say they were amongst the best I've.ever played, and the most challenging.
They work for the competitive, as they allow you to challenge for the stunty cup.

Also, if you want to try out halflings; have a go with them against the computer "AI" in the Cyanide version. They are actually the only team that'll give you any challenge, there.
