Using Kick

I've taken kick for the first time with one of my teams, and I was wondering how the people here in the forums use it. I planned on putting it 3 squares out from the corner, as that seems to have the best odds of staying inbounds with the bounce. Any favorite spots or pitfalls to beware of?

I use it. And that's where I put it...except that;s where I put it valmost all the time, anyway.

Kick is also nice for when you need those onside kicks. Overload the LoS and plop the ball the ball down right in from of your team.

Love that skill. One of the first my team ever picks up. Rember, skills only have to be declared after you see the die roll. If it goes a little better without the skill halving the result. Let it move the full distance. You only have a choice between 2 squares, pick the best one. I usually use it for onside kicks, though. I don't play teams fast enough to get to it in the back field. Occasionally, though, BAM, right in the corner.

It can be a good idea to kick it near the LOS sometimes too, especially if you have some Pass Blockers and/or Foul Appearance guys to mess up the throw (all depends on the set-up I suppose!)

Are you sure about this? You can decide not to use kick after seeing the result? That seems a little out of wack.

Yup, several of the BBRC members have agreed with this Zombie. Roll for the scatter distance and choose whether or not to apply Kick to half it.

Never really used this skill, but after reading this brief discussion I think it will be one I will use in future!

Rule of thumb: Deep weakside corner against running teams, Short weakside corner against passing teams. The theory here is that against running teams it gives you time to split their team before they form a cage; against passing teams it forces them to bring their thrower forward and puts them in danger.

I love the deep kick with skaven, gives me time to get my GR turnover specialists downfield. I also had a woodelf team that used dodge/passblock line-elves in the outside linebacker position. I'd kick short corner against running teams, if they wanted to secure the ball behind their blockers they'd have to pass it. Often as not that meant I could get a passblocker in there to interfere with the pass.

Kick is the first lineman skill I get for any team, league or tournament.

by the way Galak, is pbem programed to deal with the after the roll?

P.S. on a semi related note, how do u deal with the fact that the ball lands after ko result. That is, the ball seems to bounce in the current sequence, are kickoff return and quick snap figured in? Not to mention do we have to mention to our opponents whether to use Kick skill at all?

Just so I'm clear, here is the sequence we use for the kick-off:
1) Roll for event(2d6)
2) Scatter and Distance(d8 / d6)
3) Quick Snap/Blitz Resolution
3) Bounce Scatter(d8)

I would assume kick only affects #2, and then only the distance(d6) portion.

You are correct on all counts - but #3 can be expanded to include all kickoff results not just the blitz and quick snap.

Yes, that is the order of things durring the kick-off.

correct again.

PBeM rule change was that if you have Kick in a valid square you have to use it.

Too much hassle otherwise.

I'm not sure if Kickoff Return is programmed in yet, but if you get PD, QS, or B! on the kickoff it does not scatter the ball automatically.

Over here, we've always played #3 before #2. Makes blitz less problematic. That's what was put in the Oberwald as well as all 3 editors thought it made more sense and provided more strategic gameplay.

I agree with the idea of using Kick after the scatter has been determined - it's like M.Blow, you can use it after the dice has been rolled on armour OR injury (but only once of course  )
