Rookie Commish pt II : Illegal procedures

hi guys,
over the past couple of weeks I've been running 'practice' matches amongst my gaming group to introduce
everyone to BB in preparation for the league I'm about to run. Things have gone well so far, everyone has enjoyed the
game and gotten a feel for how their respective team works.
One thing I have noticed in the games is the lack of calls for 'illegal procedures'. Whenever anyone
forgets to move their turn counter the other player simply reminds them and they move it on. The consensus
amongst my players is that they feel a bit petty calling for the 'illegal procedure' and just remind their opponent
instead.
How important is this rule to you guys? If my players are happy to just remind each other to move the turn
marker should I just disregard that rule?
Mike.

Your players are dead right. The goal is to ensure that each coach plays the right number of turns: calling illegal procedure is just petty and best left to pre-pubescents!
Cheers,
Martyn

Entirely up to you as commish. We don't call them, a lot of leagues don't, some do. If your players are happiest not calling them then go with the consensus.

I don't think a coach should rely on them to win a game
we gently remind the offender and carry on. Some unscrupulous people will try to gain any advantage.

My league does call IPCs pretty regularly. These days, almost nobody forgets to move the turn marker though. We also force people to make moves if they move the figure (no take-backs when you realize you just dodged into two TZs).
Some of the rules could be considered petty, but the ones about moving, declaring actions, and block die counting are pretty important. You need to pay close attention to what you're doing, and shouldn't be able to roll back time.
While you shouldn't win on IPCs and the like, at the same time I shouldn't be helping you coach by pointing out the dodge you're going to need to make if you blitz my ballcarrier.

I usually take them for it, but if it's a newbie I gently remind them.
I possibly won my last game due to an IP, so the player used his only RR to carry on, then he promptly rolled a double skull on a block and I romped home a 2-0 win.
Voyagers can account for that
I felt a bit bad about it after the game, but then I realised that it's only game after all, and I'm 100% sure that my opponent would have called it if it was the other way around.

Actually in my two leagues, we cannot have illegal procedurces. Because of the structure of the game, you have to move your opponent's turn marker to end your turn. .... so its a moot question for us.

All I'll add is that it's hard to call IP's with a face full of broken teeth.

We reminded them the 1st time they did it, and then it was upto the individual coach if they wanted to call it after that. We agreed if you reminded them once and they promptly forgot again, it was the own silly sod's fault.
Mind you, BB nights were filled with a lot of "Ahem"'s and muttered "
turn markers" and coughing.

Well, i would say that i dont call illegal procedure.
BUT (cos there is a but) in a game between newbies (for at least their first season), i would let them say 'ILLEGAL PROCEDURE'. Just because after that they will not forget about their counter.
For us it seems easy but remenber when we started...
As a commish, i wont see game with 20 turns...(if there is no ref at the game of course).
We dont use the time turnover too.
So the illegale proc will die but players (at least one) shouldn t forget the turn counter.

Thanks for the comments,
the players have only reminded each other about the turn marker not any other actions.
As long as the turn marker gets moved correctly anyway I figure there's no harm in not calling for IPs.
I just wanted to see what the opinion about IPs was in the BB community as a whole.
cheers,
Mike.

We use illegal procedures in my league. Not a lot of them occur after a game or two as people learn pretty fast. it's hilarious to hear "BRRRR! Illegal Procedure!" once in a while.
What I do: everyone get's one free reminder. After than I decide on a case to case basis. If I know someone's a veteran, they don't get more than one free reminder from me, if they're new, I'll let the whole game go.
Losing track of the turns can ruin your game. I think the illegal procedure is the best thing to get people into a habit of moving that thing.

its petty to use IPC to win... but I realize the need for it. Its just too easy to forget to move the turn counter.
I like the idea of moving the opponants counter... something to consider.
I am aslo thinking of this: If a player forgets to move the counter, then the IPC is called on a roll of 5 or 6.. gives him a chanve to save the re-roll.. and the entire affair is not Quite so nasty, but still effective!
