First League - Please review starting human team

Post by Cephme »

On the suggestions of others here I am going ot use a human team in my first blood bowl league. Below you will find my starting roster. Please comment on it.

2 Throwers
3 blitzers
6 Linemen
1 Apothacary
3 RRs
9 FF

Is this 8) or :puke: ?

Thanks.

I was thinking the cathers are smidge fragile to start with so was going to hold on them until I had more depth. The Throwers are just linemen with skills so I figuregrab them, and of course blitzers are good.

I believe the best rule for any newb starting a team/army in any game. Choose what works for u. It usually ends up that how u play is more important than what u start with. A good example of that is the Pub League, everyone started out with basically the same rosters but the results have varied widely.

Since the humans start with a lot of skills that allows for Rerolls i would suggest a team like this:

2 Blitzer
2 Thrower
2 Catchers
6 Linemen
1 Apo
9 FF
2 RR

Looks good. I'd be tempted to ditch the apothecary and add another reroll, but that's just me. Completely disregarding player safety is an old Skaven trait.

I learned a long time ago that i really doesnt pay off to ditch the Apo on a starting Human team.
But thats just my oppinion. :)

I guess I'm a glutton for punishment. My views on the subject may be a tad skewed, as my league lets us play minor league games in which we can schedule our opponent. I try not to play against people who hit too hard at the beginning.

I lack that luxury. In fact I don't even know my opponent unitl AFTER I have submitted my list, so I need to be ready for anything. I was thinking of maybe doing the following to work in a reciever/12th man.

2 Throwers
1 Catcher
3 Blitzers
6 Linemen
1 Apoth
2 RR
7 FF

Do you think this any better than the previous list? :smoking:

Not really ;)

In the LRB enviroment a high FF is very importent to ensure a steady cascflow. therefor i recomend a FF of 9.
The human teams major strenght is it ability to play all kinds of game from the get go. To maximice this a Allround start up is vital. By taking 3 Blitzers you have chosen a style that involves direct combat as the means to ensure victory and has excluded the very good human catchers. With the relatively low cost combined with 2 good starting skills, they are a bargain at 70.K Furthermore they are vital to the passing game of the humans.
Use the 2 (buy 2 more as soon as possible) Blitzers as support together with the linemen to let the catchers score.

But then again, this is just my conservative way of building the human team.

Best of luck in the league :)

Flat out - no. You want to start with as many rerolls as possible at the beginning, becasue they cost more in the future. It also largely depends on how long you think your league's going to be in existance. Mine has been running for 4 years, and won't be stopping any time soon, so I knew that it was for the best long term to start with 4 rerolls, even if a blitzer died.

I think it is going to be a relatively short league, about 8 weeks, followed by the playoffs leading to the "Danger Bowl". You guys have convinced me to trim out blitzer 3 for some catchers. I'll futz around with the numbers a bit. Thanks for your help.
