Does anyone know............?

Post by bossdad »

HI,
Just starting to get back into BB after a long hiatus (wife ,kids, job etc - the stuff that usually stops you doing what you like in life!) and i'm looking for a league / club to join so that i can get back into the swing of things.
Does anyone know of any leagues in the South West of England? (esp Plymouth area)
Also, are the E-Mail versions any good?, is it worth me joining a league?

Cheers peeps

:smoking:

I think the E-mail version is great, especially if you don´t have any leagues nearby.
I also think you get more experience from playing PBeM than from real-life. (It has something to do with more experienced coaches and more to play against than you normally would).
The downside is that you must have E-mail access close by and be able to check it minimum once each day.

So if it is worth it? Hell yeah i say :D

The email version (there is only one that I know of) is very good. A new version is supposed to come out no later than May 7th (version 2.4) Like the JavaBowl program, the programmers are very involved in keeping the software up to date with the current rules.

The PBeM software is pretty easy to learn and use and virtually everything is automated (except blocking resoluation).

PBeM leagues have a lot of the best coaches in the world playing in them and really can help improve your game.

The pros of PBeM:

1) Given the large number of leagues now out there, you can easily find a league that plays the format best fits the way you like to play.
A full list of PBeM leagues can be found at:
http://www.midgardbb.com/BloodBowlLeagues.html
2) You can play a game with no more than 5 minutes every weekday of time.

The cons of PBeM:
1) Depending on your opponent a game can take 4 weeks to play. If you prefer faster action, you should check out the JavaBowl program and the FUMBBL league.
2) You REALLY need to take at least one turn every weekday or the commish tracks you down and yells at you...

If you have any other questions, there are two forums on this site dedicated to Online and PBeM BB games.

Noboby plays BB around here, so my BB fix s all PBeM, but it rocks! Started 6 months ago, and now I have 8 teams in 7 leagues

Hmm, looks like PBeM is the way to go. How easy is it to get started - it all seems quite intimidating to a newcomer like me (last time i played properly is was with 2nd edition - astrogranite rules!)
Anyone fancy lending me some advice / getting started?

Better than going into GW for a game anyway..................

Best way to get started.

1) If you haven't already, go to GW BB site and download LRB 2.0

2) Go to Galak's site and read/download the rules reviews

3) viewtopic.php?t=457 for a guide to using the tool.

4) Download the tool and play a few games against yourself to get an idea of how the tool works. A roster creator can be downlaoded at the same time.

5) Ask here for someone to give you a practice match. I'm happy to give you a game when you've got a handle on the basics.

6) And Most Important - HAVE FUN!
