The email version (there is only one that I know of) is very good. A new version is supposed to come out no later than May 7th (version 2.4) Like the JavaBowl program, the programmers are very involved in keeping the software up to date with the current rules.
The PBeM software is pretty easy to learn and use and virtually everything is automated (except blocking resoluation).
PBeM leagues have a lot of the best coaches in the world playing in them and really can help improve your game.
The pros of PBeM:
1) Given the large number of leagues now out there, you can easily find a league that plays the format best fits the way you like to play.
A full list of PBeM leagues can be found at:
http://www.midgardbb.com/BloodBowlLeagues.html
2) You can play a game with no more than 5 minutes every weekday of time.
The cons of PBeM:
1) Depending on your opponent a game can take 4 weeks to play. If you prefer faster action, you should check out the JavaBowl program and the FUMBBL league.
2) You REALLY need to take at least one turn every weekday or the commish tracks you down and yells at you...
If you have any other questions, there are two forums on this site dedicated to Online and PBeM BB games.
