Hi Fondu I can only quickanswer no1Fondu77 wrote:Ok question :
1/ Where is Manheim (train station airport?)
2/ Where can we sleep? (I heard that there were some spare rooms but I forgot the rest)
You could travel over Frankfurt (Main) Airport and catch the train to Mannheim from there (should take about 1 hour)
or you travel directly from France by train (depends from where you start)
I think the sleeping facilities will be sorted out soon by N-Kay and Tim ... so stay patient

Re: Mark your calendars: German Tournament in Mannheim
Fondu:
From Paris i'd go via train or car directly to Mannheim. If you can share a car with other people, that should be the cheapest. It's around 550 kms to drive, and péage is around 25 Euros one way. Should take around 4-5h to drive. Coming by car will also be easiest to get to Ilvesheim. By train, there's a direct connection from Paris Est to Mannheim, that train needs 5:30. Other connection is via Metz/Saarbrücken or Cologne for Paris Nord. However, if you plan to work the monday after the connections on sunday are not the best.
For those who fly into Frankfurt/Main, there's an ICE train connection from the airport train station to Mannheim that takes only 30 mins and goes every hour. (can't even beat that by car). Last time i took it it was 17 Euros one way without prebooking.
Mannheim has a very small airport as well, but i don't think they do international connections.Tim wrote:Mannheim is well connected to the German train system, including the fast ICE trains. Frankfurt/Main airport is pretty close, Frankfurt/Hahn (cheap flights! e.g. with Ryanair) and Stuttgart are in the 100km range as well.

Yes, Dave, I am thinking about going to this tournament, especially since it is very unlikely that I will have time for a real holiday this year.
Thanks to the German Freeway driving to Frankfurt can easily be done in a few hours, so that's not a real problem. (I've visited the Frankfurt autoshow; don't remember what it's called, with my dad and uncle a few years ago; we drove there on the morning, and got home in the evening)
