Star Players, when and how?

I have been playing games against myself with the PBembb program, but have not yet figured out how to hire star players. Are they in the game? When are they purchased? I've tried manually giving one team lots of money with the team creator, but I am not offered a chance to purchase SPs in the pregame and once in game, I only see a way to get Cards. Can anyone help me with this quandry?

You use the Add Player option on the teams roster within the tool once you've loaded the rosters. As Stars are only purchased per game, there's no option to add them via the TeamCreator.

When I add player, do I look up their stats and "build" them using the tool, or are they preloaded somewhere? My guess is the building option right?
