Linux PBeM client?

.. Being a freak, I'm running Linux most of the time.. Now, I'm wondering if there is a PBeM client that runs under this OS...

Would be fun to be able to play over the net, but if I have to go through the hassle of moving my mail messages from linux to windows and reboot for every turn, I just don't see it happening...

I might consider building a cross-platform (ie, Java or maybe try to set up a web-based thingy) client though..

Since I help Ronald write the PBeM software ... I doubt a Linux platform will be available any time in the near future.

Hmm.. Not being familiar with how the PBeM software works, I'm assuming you send some form of save-file back and forth between the players.. Is the format of this file openly available? As I mentioned, I might be interested in creating a Java PBeM client...

christer ....

Correct a saved file is sent back and forth between the players.

Unfortunately, the format of this file is not openly available as it is encrypted to help protect against cheating during match play.

Christer ... the system requirements are really low ... if you have an older machine around with Win 95 (hey some people do) ... it would be able to run the program.

Well.. I do have an old machine up and running.. But it's acting firewall/router, so I can't really use that.. Also, it kinda lacks a screen.. :)

Anyway.. I might be able to get the client to run under WINE.. Assuming the client doesn't do anything exotic, it might actually work...

Wine didn't quite like the PBeM client.. Although I found SkiJunkie's application, which works just fine.. Sure, it's not PBeM, but I can spare the time to play it "realtime" as well.. :D

Has anyone had any luck getting PBeM running under WINE in linux? I'd really like to play some MBBL, but am currently on the road with my ubuntu laptop. Playing on windows machines isn't really an option.

Any advice much appreciated, cheers.

Just running a few test games now in WINE, and it's looking sweet - for both the team creator and PBeM tool. I guess WINE has come a long way in 6 years. Hurrah!
