Jocks vs Geordies III, October 1/2 2016
JvG is back!
This October the Jocks will be shambling their way south across the border to do battle with the Geordies at Durham, the site of many an Anglo-Caledonian conflict.
The prize, won comfortably and then narrowly by the Geordies in the first two years of competition, is this spectacular trophy:
Hosting rights alternate north and south of the border; this year it’s the Geordies turn to host.
The protagonists:
Jocks:
Purdindas
Donshula
Lord_Garlack
Garrick
HumptyTrump
Valen
Geordies:
Pipey
Peo2223
Winkle_Picka
Schmee

Geordies done too good a job at getting us smashed on the Saturday night. Our second day performance suffered greatly as a result. Great fun though.

Jocks vs. Geordies part III
Born as Eurobowl practice for both parties back in 2014, this annual contest has become great fun in its own right: a Blood-Bowling Union of like-minded folk, brought together by a love of silly games and good times.
The Scots will be competing in Sweden hoping to bring Eurobowl to Edinburgh in the coming years. Hopefully this JvG practice will stand them in good stead. None of the Geordies will be Eurobowling (or EurOpening) this year but we wish the Jocks well and hope they achieve their goal. Coming second to the Geordies (our confident prediction!) hopefully wouldn’t dampen their spirits too much…
This year’s venue would be the city of Durham. The games took place in a cosy pub on Old Elvet Bridge by the river Wear (Saturday) and then in Pipey’s house (Sunday).
Revised list of participating coaches:
Geordies
Hana_666 W Elf
Peo Norse
Pipey Necro
Schmee Chaos
Stick Lizard
Jocks
Garrick D Elf
Humpty_Trump Skaven
Lord_Garlack W Elf
Purdindas H Elf
Sadface Human
Rules:
*Eurobowl 2016 roster building
*1 pt for each individual win, 0.5 pts for an individual draw
*Each round the winning team receives an extra 1 pt for winning the round, or 0.5 pts for drawing the round
*5 games Round Robin
The fun started on Friday night with a fine Indian takeaway and a gaming preamble consisting of dice based gambling and Wild West tabletop gun fighting. The entertainment was ably facilitated by Schmee, whose endless supply of new and intriguing games never ceases to amaze. (Go Jonny Go Go Go Go! didn’t surface until Sunday afternoon).
Both lineups were present by late morning on Saturday and after a mighty breakfast we arrived at the “Swan and Three Cygnets” to set up. The landlord was strangely cantankerous on arrival, but cheered up once we started to spend our (English and Scottish) notes on beer and food. The riverside snug was the perfect setting for a small BB tournament. The drinks were incredibly good value too.
Round 1 (11:00 Saturday)
Hana_666 1 – 1 Sadface
Peo2223 1 – 1 Garrick
Pipey 0 – 0 Purdindas
Stick 1 – 2 Lord_Garlack
Schmee 0 – 3 Humpty_Trump
Geordies 1.5 – 3.5(4.5) Jocks
The Scots seized the early initiative, Blitzing the stunned Geordies onto the back foot. Three gritty draws and wins for Lord_Garlack and Humpty_Trump put the Scots three points ahead.
Round 2 (13:30 Saturday)
Hana_666 4 – 1 Purdindas
Peo2223 2 – 1 Lord_Garlack
Pipey 2 – 0 Garrick
Stick 2 – 1 Humpty_Trump
Schmee 0 – 2 Sadface
Geordies 4(5) – 1 Jocks
Characteristic Geordie bouncebackability was initiated here. Hannah adroitly delivered the “shaft” to Jocks skipper Purdindas and the team followed suit. Only Schmee was charitable enough to offer the Jocks any points this round.
Round 3 (15:45 Saturday)
Hana_666 1 – 2 Garrick
Peo2223 1 – 0 Humpty_Trump
Pipey 1 – 1 Lord_Garlack
Stick 2 – 1 Sadface
Schmee 0 – 5 Purdindas
Geordies 2.5(3) – 2.5(3) Jocks
A thrilling tie, which left the Geordies an incredibly slender 1 point ahead overnight (Geordies 9.5 – 8.5 Jocks). Pipey held out for a tough draw against Lord_Garlack’s marauding wood elves, with Peo and Stick finding first gear to deliver crucial wins. JvG veterans Garrick and Purdindas posted vital victories for Scotland.
Round 4 (09:00 Sunday)
Hana_666 3 – 3 Lord_Garlack
Peo2223 2 – 1 Sadface
Pipey 2 – 0 Humpty_Trump
Stick 2 – 1 Purdindas
Schmee 0 – 5 Garrick
Geordies 3.5(4.5) – 1.5 Jocks
After a fun Saturday night including a delicious Thai meal and many of our brave participants passing out attempting to play Robo Rally, Round 4 arrived 09:00 on Sunday morning. Was the early start too much for the Jocks? Well, to call a Scotch egg a Scotch egg, they didn’t really turn up. A solid Geordie victory was documented, meaning the Jocks needed a crushing win in the final round to win their maiden Jocks vs. Geordies title.
Round 5 (11:15 Sunday)
Hana_666 2 – 2 Humpty_Trump
Peo2223 2 – 1 Purdindas
Pipey 2 – 0 Sadface
Stick 1 – 1 Garrick
Schmee 1 – 1 Lord_Garlack
Geordies 3.5(4.5) – 1.5 Jocks
Whilst Europe and the USA were preparing to contest a dramatic final day on the golf course, an even more heroic tussle was unfolding on Wearside. The intrepid Jocks did all they could to secure the crucial decisive victory but alas it was not to be. In the end the Geordies secured another substantial triumph, taking a further bonus point in the process. Even Schmee avoided defeat, scoring his first touchdown of the tournament in turn 16 of the final game. The Scots had to throw caution to the wind and perhaps they took one gamble too many.
After the games sorrows were drowned and victory toasted over Sunday lunch. Just before sunset, ten stout souls set off home to plot future frivolities and future glories. The Geordies are very much looking forward to JvG 2017 which will be hosted up in Scotland ahead of Eurobowl Portugal.
Final Score:
Jocks 11.5 – 18.5 Geordies

Re: Jocks vs Geordies III, October 1/2 2016
Don't know how I missed this first time around.
Excellent report, many thanks Pipey. Fantastic weekend, thanks again Pipey for your hospitality. Great weekend (sadly it did not prepare us for Sweden but it appears to have helped us at UKTC - who would have thought we would finish higher than the Geordies A team!!)
Plus Statistics brilliant (every effort will be made to wrest Peo's crown off him, fnarrr).

Hi Graham. Glad you enjoyed the write up. Please let us know when JvG IV will be taking place. Naturally we'll be looking to assemble a fearsome Geordie raiding party.

Re: Jocks vs Geordies III, October 1/2 2016
I'm hopeful we can put out a full thoroughbred Geordie lineup.
Date of JvG IV well in advance will really help re work/family commitments etc.
Some time a month-ish prior to EB and not too close i.e. one of 16-17 Sep, 23-24 Sep, 30 Sep - 1 Oct?
