Waterbowl Accommodation Feb 21/22 2009

Some ideas for those of you attending the Waterbowl in February. This also a thread for people who need to find someone to share with to keep the costs down.

NB - for those of you looking to stay at the Grafton Hotel again - it has been demolished :o
- Also, there may well be home football fixtures for United or City this weekend, so rooms may get booked up quickly.

The list will enlarge, but for now:

'The Crown & Anchor', 41 Hilton Street, Manchester, M1 2EE. Tel - 0161 228 1142

Prices: £25 single
£40 twin
£50 triple

- these are last year's prices. Need to phone and check this year's rates.

The price includes breakfast.

The pub is not as close to the year's venue as it is to FB3. That said, it is still a viable option. The CTF building is only about 15/20 mins on the bus (depends on traffic). Any bus numbered 140+ or 40+ will get you there. Ask for a ticket to the university (Magic Bus or Finglands will be cheapest). Grafton Street is only a short walk from the bus stop (5 mins or so). Alternately, you could walk it in around 30-40 mins (depending on hang-over...)

It is also within very easy walking distance of manchester piccadilly train station.

This venue has housed a number of Waterbowlers over the last three years.

Other places worth checking out are:

Victoria Park Hotel,
4 Park Crescent,
Victoria Park,
Manchester,
M14 5RE

Prices: £32.00 Single, Double £42.00, Triple £60.00, Quad £75.00
Rates include breakfast. 20 mins or so walk from venue. (Not very far in taxi or bus). Bus route about a minute's walk from here.

Well, I've not got the offer if BIG Petes student place for this one. I was hping to stay in the Grafton for a night (I know it's rubbish, but it's also close enough for me to indulge my love of sleeping as late as possible).

Looks like it'll be the Victoria Park Hotel for me again.

Ok, I think Shaniepoo was going to share with me (oh the humanity), and my buddy Mike will be a third wheel.

Hi

Does anyone know what is the parking like at the venue? What sort of cost are we looking at for all day parking?

Just wondering whether I will drive to venue each day or leave the car at the hotel.

I will be looking for somewhere to stay. Would prefer somewhere that I can use public transport i.e. get the train from Preston then bus then walk and leave the car at home.
I would like to stay with some other waterbowlers. Sharing a room would be good but as it is only the Saturday night a single in the same hotel would be fine.

So would anybody like to Share a room with me a Victoria Park Hotel?

Yep Daz, sounds good to me if that's ok?

I'm assured my snoring isn't too bad, the missus has only slapped me awake once in the last six months! :D

Has anyone previously stayed at the Victoria Park Hotel?

The guest reviews are not very encouraging. Is it as bad as they say?

I did last year. It's... adequate.

The beds are comfortable, the room is clean enough. You get a complimentary breakfast, of two fried eggs and some toast.

Overall, it's ok, butnothing special. I'll be using it to sleep, and thats it.
