Static Grass Question

I recently bought some static grass for basing my minitures (and I love it sooooooo much better than the flock), and I have a question. I want to paint white lines on some of the figures bases, to make it look like they are actually on a field. But, I'm not sure if there is anything special I should to to paint the grass with the white line. Any suggestions?

I never used the stuff, but I could imagine making a line mask (just like two pieces of paper slightly apart or something better) should work, just press it to the base and spray paint it. I dunno.

First, water down your skull white almost but not quite to a wash, then do several coats untill the desired chalk line effect is created. Be sure to let the paint dry thoughly between coats as your glue on the grass will come loose if you do not. Oh by the way try the flock first then the static grass, it creates a cool effect of sod and I use it on all my teams. Good luck.S.

Just paint the white line roughly over the grass (when it's dry). It will create a chalky effect.

My buddy did it that way. Looks really nice!

Thanks guys!

I'll probably try a couple of the above ideas above and see which one I like best. :)

another good technique I've seen, but not used myself yet, is to paint a single thin line on the base before you add the static grass, then after static grassing (?) you paint more over the top. I thin my paint a little, but certainly not as thin as a wash - it needs some substance to it to stick to the grass. The line on the base directly provides definition, while the second layers add that "paint stuck on turf" quality. looked good when I saw it done.
