Regarding what Linemen should be called

For Fantasy Football related chat that doesn't come under any of other forum categories.

Elf, orc and skaven (etc..) line player postions should be named by race.

Absolutely. Brilliant Roy. :D

OMG, being conservative when you're 22  -I'm just kidding-

I voted "who cares?" but I would have voted No, just in order to follow the Big Sect "Ringz of ColoUrZ" ;)... and also because lineorc doesn't mean anything when translated, does it ? The correct word should be orc linemen, but not sure... my english knowledge is just a little bit better than my norvegian one

BTW, you're welcome !

hmmm... an interesting notion... how does "lineman" translate into the other languages bb is played in?

clearly the problem here is one of semantics and the fact that the language used in the game is the language of a world where there were not a passle of distinct races.... human language uses "man" to indicate all.... but if we were in fact in a world like that of bb, with many races, there would be another word that would be used to be al-incluseve, and that term would be attached to the end of "line-" and not, in fact "-man"

so i change my vote, they should all be "linebeing" instead!

:P

Unless I am totally mistaken, In the case of lineman, I belive -man is an abbreviation of human, and not indicative to the players gender.

If so, it is clearly a grammatical error with regards to other races than human. Linebeing.. gee.. doesn't sound that good. Maybe Lineplayer? Or scirmish screen perhaps?

:)

Well. I honestly don't think GW would spend more than maybe 3 minutes editing the text, so I don't think that will drain their resources all that much.

And I don't call my wardancers blitzers, they are wardancers :D

It's not an error as it was intended to be lineman. If you want to call them linerats, lineorcs or whatever, go for it, no-one is stopping you. It's just that the majority of people don't honestly care about it and would rather the BB team sat down and worked on clearing up rules and tidying up the game instead of changing all lineman references to the being in question (which trust me, would take a LOT longer than three minutes).

Also remember, lineman is the generic blood bowl term for the basic player. Would you insist that GW changed all orc shamans to Shaorcs, or goblin shamans to Shagobs?

i never said gw was wrong... i said the problem was in the english language's term for inclusion based on a single-race world being used in a multi-race world...

yes, it would take them ten minutes to update the lrb, a half hour to update the locker room... but that would generate countless letters to fanatic "is the longbeard and the lineman the same guy?" "are the new rosters offical?" "can i use the old roster in tournaments?" "why the hell did you change the rosters, we liked them the way they were?" "gee, you found time to change something that doesn't affect the game but you can't give me secret weapon rules... i ahte you guys" etc...

plus, now they've got obsolete rosters all over creation in paper and electronic form, and that shiney new rulebook that just came out isn't up to date anymore...

even in a world where everyone in the community agreed with you, including jervis, and realized that it was you who finally saw the light in the darkness and were the first to see the mistakes we'd all been making *snarf* you'd be looking at two to three years before new print materials are compiled with hte change anyway...

and at the end of the day, no one really cares what you call your linebeings...

I never said to change the dwarves. Longbeards are longbeards.
Zombies are still Zombies, and Skeletons are skeletons. Skinks are skinks.

Only the LineMAN on the skaven list, and elf lists are changed to read, respectivly LineRat and LineElf.

If anybody actually fails to understand this simple change, and are unable to take a split second and compare to check for changes, to hell with them. They are probably useless coaches anyway.. :D

Oyyhh..

Was this seriously meant?
Did I say something stupid again?

-sigh-

Ok, Whatever. Just forget it then.

In fact, I'll even consider calling my lion warriors

I'm not a bad guy, really.

you are absolutely right. It's not worth getting worked up over.
I just thought since so many did it, why not just add it.

I never realized that GW would get tons of mail from fans not understanding why it suddenly read linerat, not lineman on the skaven team list.

And it is certainly not worth getting people on the forum upset with me.

I thought it was a clever and cute idea. My bad.
