Big Guys and Pro
Can an Ogre with Pro re-roll his Bone-Head skill? I think that he should be able to but there is an argument that having failed his roll he does not get an action to make the pro roll in.
On a similar line can a Treeman use pro to re-roll his take-root roll? In this instance I am inclined to say no as the roll takes place before the game.

Re: Big Guys and Pro
Correct on both counts. Pro can reroll Bonehead and Really Stupid. The failure effects do not kick in until you resolve any possible re-rolls, so you can use Pro.Munkey wrote:Can an Ogre with Pro re-roll his Bone-Head skill? You cannot Pro Take Root (trust me I wish you could) as its an off-pitch roll.

I have to disagree here. I know, I know...it says "any one dice roll" but c'mon. Think about these...
1. Say a passer throws a pass thats intercepted, uses his Safe Throw skill and rolls a 1...technically he can use Pro to re-roll the Safe Throw roll????
(because the Safe Throw roll isn't an action roll, it's an ability roll. that'd make an interception literally IMPOSSIBLE!)
2. A player fails to dodge and uses his Dodge skill to re-roll it and STILL fails...technically he can use Pro to re-roll the second Dodge roll???
(because it's not rerolling the Dodge itself, it's re-rolling his own skill roll)
3. A player fails his Dauntless roll...he can use Pro to re-roll it???
I personally know people that have tried these things. I dunno....call me old-fashioned, but that smells.

1. Yup, it is no different than using a TRR to get a better result. Doesn't make it impossible, just more unlikely.
2. Nope. You would be rerolling the same action (dodge) twice. That isn't allowed. Cant use a TRR to reroll after a dodge skill failure. Same thing.
3. Yup. Again you can use a TRR for the same effect. It is a good combo.
Pro is a good all around skill because it makes the player less likely to fail at any action. The chance for failure is still there however.

Yes, you can use Pro to reroll the Safe Throw roll, or a TRR. You can use a TRR to reroll a failed Pro roll, so I don't see that this is different.SixFootDwarf wrote: 1. You can't reroll a reroll. Since you are always rolling the dodge you can't use Pro or a TRR once you used a skill.SixFootDwarf wrote: 2. A player fails to dodge and uses his Dodge skill to re-roll it and STILL fails...technically he can use Pro to re-roll the second Dodge roll???

Pro is pretty good skill - but as it only works half the time you have to be willing to risk failure.

No, but Pro is a no-brainer choice for WA after Block. It goes a long way to counter the WA negtrait, same as the others.Relborn wrote:Okay we agree that one can use Pro on Take Root, Bone Head and Very Stupid.
Wouldn't this make Wild Animal even far worse than it is already ? As far as I know there is know roll to see wether Wild Animal kicks in ....

okay... no intend to start another WA thread here.
Personally I agree that Pro is a No-brainer for WAs (after Block of course) but this doesn't say anything about negative traits being approximately being balanced to each other.
This isn't necessary if there is an overall balance in a big guy. You could say for example that the Rat Ogre is that good that he needs such an balancing factor. But the Minotaur is also WA and I doubt that he is worth his goldcrowns if you compare him to an ogre ...

Actually, having given my WA pro for his second skill, I was thinking I may have done better getting him piling on. At least it gives you an excuse to put him on the ground so he doesn't have to block.

You can't pro a Take Root failure, Relborn, as Galak said earlier this thread, it happens off pitch. So the only ones it affects are Really Stupid and Bonehead.
WA is a pain but it can be worked around. Piling on is a definite choice to control it under the current rules. We have a RO in the league leading causlties simply because his coach took PO for his second skill. RSF was his third skill, and he is getting fairly close to his fourth...after only two tournaments.
