Dealing with Piling on rat ogre

Post by Akrith »

I'm new here and I'm looking for advice for dealing with that beast. I'm using a rookie high elf team and I was thinking of using a wizard to ZAP em then focus on getting rid of him in his kermit like state.. :) Is there an easier way of getting rid of him without shelling out the cash?

I like this plan. I'm proud to be a part of it.

Rat ogre Woes...

Post by Norbor »

You know Akrith, if your in a League, and your comish allows it you might want to look at the Ratz next opponents to see if they might be willing to throw in a couple of gold to help defray the cost of said wizard.

I'd check before the Orc's go off an replace one of his players or something...

Piling On is starting to get out of hand, and the only way to counter it is to foul, foul, and foul. Give him a sacrificial lamb to pile upon, and once he is down, run your dirty player over and give him a swift kick to the head. You should have a dirty player or two on your team to help your odds in case the first one gets thrown out. Otherwise dodge everyone away and make him use up his blitz. Its better to fall on a dodge where he can't use Pile On, then let him hit you and use it.

Other solutions than fouling:

Give him a dodger (or block dodge if he has block). The odds of getting him down aren't that great.

Swarm him so he's left with 1 and 1/2 dice blocks. Easier to do if you've got Guard and/or high strength. Also a lot easier once you've got rid of the supporting rats.

Block him. If you've got Dauntless its not a bad option - RO are only Av 8.

Ignore him. Make it so that if he wants to hit he has to use his blitz - and ensure that isn't anywhere useful.

At the Dutch Open I once used my opponents Rat Ogre to my own advantage; My cage was a bit stuck, so I moved enough Dwarfs around the Rat Ogre to force him to make a 2 die I choose block, and moved my ball carrier with only a little bit of support to an open position.
His turn, the Rat Ogre had to block, and went down. Now it was my turn again, so I could now move my Ball Carrier to safety and continue hitting his team (and fouling the RO too, of course). This play, though a bit of a gamble, gave me an easy TD :D

Take advantage of the Rat Ogre's Wild Animal - swarm him with defenders (preferably with Guard). In his turn, he has to throw a block - with proper planning you should get to pick the result. When he goes down - stomp him.

An added bonus is that it's a turnover in his first action if the Rat goes down. Carry on swarming and fouling him til the brute is hammered

There's nothing like stompin' frogs though - gives you a warm, fuzzy feeling inside :D

If you look at his initial post, he is using a ROOKIE elf team, so no skills besides what is on the team roster. His 2 choices are to either foul the RO out of the game, or swarm him and hope he rolls a skull on 2 dice defenders choice.

Be careful with swarming. I swarmed an opposing RO in a tourney this year. 2D my choice was a double push, followed by a single die splat..left me out of position elsewhere.

Hence the reason why I suggested fouling the sucker off of the pitch

The main reason I suggested the wizard is so that I got a good chance with a reroll (I hope I can use it w/ a wizard) of now getting rid of a AV4 stunty frog then a AV8 0r 9 Rat Ogre. Even if he keeps lil kermie away from me in fear of getting him hurt fine, I'll take my time trying to score, with a low MV compared to mine I don't think he'll get away that quickly, I can even send one of my lion warriors "frog stompin"
