Changing "Sprint" would be good. (One Turn TD's)

Post by Toby »

Current Living Rule Book:
Sprint = +1 GFI
Example: Emerging Star Skaven Gutter Runner (+1 MA, Verry Long Legs, Sprint)
MA 9+2+3*GFI = MA 14

Toby's Lousy Rule Book:
Sprint = +1 MA
Example: Emerging Star Skaven Gutter Runner (+1 MA, Verry Long Legs, Sprint)
MA 9+3+2*GFI = MA 14
STOP! No Player Characteristic may be increased by more than 2 Points over it's starting Value... The player is not allowed to pick Sprint !

The Maxmum Player MA in Blood Bowl would be 13 that way. To score in one turn Players would have to be set up along the Line of Scrimmage. The only exception would be a "Quick Snap" on the Kick Off.

In my Oppinion that would be an improvement. What do you think ? Are there side Effects of changing Sprint to MA +1 that should be considered ?

Personally, i've never seen a one-turner start 14 squares from the end zone. The problem imo isn't 14 MA players, it's 13 MA players. Get rid of sprint altogether and the problem is solved, except for the very lucky players who either get +2 MA or +1 MA and a mutation.

As it is, sprint is a crappy skill anyway, and only worth taking for one-turners.

In the OBL (www.oldboysleague.com), we have been testing progressive go-for-its. Their merit has been discussed before, so I won't go into pros and cons, just what it does and how we now handle Sprint.

A player can 'Go For It' as many times as s/he wants to. It simply gets progressively more difficult. 2+ for the first, 3+ for the second, and so on. The current Sprint does not fit into this category, so we changed it to be something like Mighty Blow. On one of your GFIs, you can add one to the die roll.

I like the rule, some don't. Like Zombie said, though, it's not a very good skill unless you are aiming for a OTS, in either system.

With Sprint there's always that chance of failing your GFI. If it was just +1 MA then there's less chance of the one turner failing.

whats the problem with one turners ? i think if you can make a one turner player you are a damn good coach, it takes hard work and patience, and with skaven you're lucky if a player lives that long to see all thoe skills.
I myself have only managed it once or twice and i've been playing since 2nd ed, but then it's not all that often i make a skaven team

Keep sprint the way it is, it's great

What kind of skill does it take to roll a MA and a double? Its pure luck to get one, and the odds are pretty good in your favor if you retire GRs who don't develop. I see way too many of them for my tastes. OTS are just not fun.

thats a good point, but on the other hand they loose square 14.

so u say its the MA 13 players that cause the trouble. well, u got a point there but i think ma 13 can be defended to some degree. but MA 14 is close to unstopable...

One turners

Post by Smeborg »

Hi guys.

I don't think one turn scorers are a problem in BB. After all, there are 8 or 9 races that can score in one turn with rookie sides (with a bit of luck). These sides just get better at it as they gain skill advances. That's all.

Cheers

A rookie dwarf team can score in one turn without quick snap, but the chance of succeeding is abysmal. To be able to do it with 1000 dice rolls, and to be able to do it with only a couple of 2+ rolls, are two different matters entirely. The problem is the one-turn scoring MA10 gutter runners and wood elf catchers, who almost never fail. The rest is ok.

Then what about TTM ?? they can score in one turn too, and that doesn t seem really difficult, is it ?

The rolls are much harder to make (they're not 2+ rolls). Also, i've always said that orc teams should lose the TTM option. As for the stunties, it's the only thing they have going for them.

What is the problem with 1-Turn Scores? If you dont want that to happen get a lot of players with Tackle and diving Tackle. Reduces his Chances. And there is always the possibility that he fails a dodge, a Gfi, a Blockor a Blitz(remeber 1s and Skulls happen). Taking 1-Turn Scores away from the fast Teams would make it too hard for them. Remember how often have you been crunched by a Orc Team with 5 or more St4 players 8 Turns long (he scoring on his Turn 8) and then you wished you could forbid this? 1 Turn Scores dont kill players. 7 or 8 Teams of definding with av 7 does!
Just use Tackle! And or Diving Tackle (dont need players with both just equal numbers)
Its just fair and although I only had one 1-Turner I think its perfect fair.
Removing the ability to score in 1 Turn would take away all the arguments from taking a Av 7 team. You could take High Elves with Av 8 and still score as reliant in 2 Turns as Skaven or Wood Elves.
Take players with Tackle! And he will have much harder times!
Oh and I think I scored more through failed 1-Turn-TD atempts than my opponents scored 1-Turn Scores.
Dont forget Tackle

Changing Sprint would only allow Starting MA9 Players to become possible OT' scorers... so afaik only Wood Elf Catchers and Skaven Gutter Runners could be such superrunners. (exept flying gobos and halflngs)

I think its great, i want to promote it ! Change Sprint to MA+1

Has anybody an Valid argument not to do so ?
