Wood Elf lineup

Post by 50footDwarf »

My starting wood elf team looks like this:

1 Wardancer
2 Throwers
4Catchers
4 Lineelves
1 Re-roll
1 Fan Factor

Is it a good idea to have such a low fan factor? It can go up quite quickly in season games, and elves are pretty damn expensive

Take as much FF as you can...
I'd say
1 WD
10 lnm
2 RR
8 FF
1buy apo, then WD #2

:o :o :o
It's indeed a very bad idea to start with FF 1.
This team has no future and is destined for early retirement IMHO.

A team with low FF has no future, no matter what race it is.
Especially elves need some FF, because you need a lot of money to buy your players.
I would by an apoth. at the start.

1. One reroll isn't enough- as soon as you fail a dodge or leap, it's gone.

2. You don't need two throwers- only one will ever be on the pitch.

3. You don't need ANY catchers- WE linemen have MA7 and AG4, so they're already better at it than most races! Plus it gets them important SPPs early on.

4. As others have said, boost your FF, because the players are expensive and you really need the income.

5. WEs take a beating for the first few games, so protect your position players. How would you defend using that team? You'd find much of your initial investment limping from the field after only a couple of games.

6. The key to winning with WEs is defence, because they're pretty much always going to score on offence. Try to plan with that in mind.

Follow berserker's advice, begin with a single wardancer and maximize your FF. After first match get an apothecary (unless you have sufered any casualties) and then save for the second wardancer. Next goes the thrower and then catchers

I'm creating a new WE Team, and instead of taking:
1 WD
10 Lines
8 FF
2 RR

I was thinking of:

9 Lines
2 Catchers
2 ReRolls
FF 9
2 RRolls

This seems beter on Offense (you can spread the drive over 2 flanks and decide where to pass the ball, still, worse on Defense (no Blocker to attack the ball carrier).
At least with my line up, the opponent needs to cripple 2 players before the teams becomes useless :D

What do you think?

The Wardancer is too good to pass up IMHO.

Catchers are great scorers but you need at least one guy to do the dirty job to steal the ball from the opponent and the WD is your man with his ability to leap into cages, blodge keep him on the pitch.

I don't like starting a team without any block and with <3 average ST. You'll be hard pressed to break defence.

so, go with line up nr 1 and buy a catcher as soon as appropriate? (= after an apoth)

You were right about that defence thing. once the opponent has the ball, line up 2 doesn't stand a chance

I'd say after apoth and after WD n°2...

... and a couple of RR ... actually, it is only very late that you start getting catchers, don't you think?

If you actually play to win games I'd strongly recommend:

1. apoth (no matter what)
2. 2nd Wardancer (no matter what)
3. Thrower (You will need a Sure Hand Thrower to have a reliable offense to actually win games)
4. Tree (at least if you play in a bashy league or suffer from too many unavoidable losses)
5. Catchers Catchers Catchers (and a 2nd Thrower) and Rerolls, of course.

I would strongly consider getting a tree prior to the Thrower, especially in a bashy environment. You are low on cash all the time and the tree saves much cash in the long run.

Whenever you loose a Wardancer you will need a new one as soon as possible!

depends on who your opponents will be, but I'd say go for it.

it's a fun alternative, though risky. or just because it is risky.

just dodge is almost the same as blodge in defense, as there aren't too many blockers around in any case, meaning higher survival chances for your catchers.

if your defence is aggressive enough, you won't miss the dancer too much and by the time you'll need him, you will have him.

whatever. it'll work, with luck. break the convention thingie majig.

and "there can only be one-thousand"

I've played 1 half with my new team, and already my WD is niggled. D*mn, so those throwers will have to wait anyhow. :pissed:

Maybe I'll try a line up with 2 catcher anyway, just because it's different.

So a Treeman is a good idea?? I always feel it wouldn't even get of the LOS, but that might not even be a problem. I'll have to buy the mini first, and i know myself, I'll end up with 4 or 5 new teams, + extra's
