Getting Started

Post by Troy Spiral »

Howdy,

I've dabbled in BB back in the day, but im pretty much a "day 1 noobie". I had asked a few noobie questions about a year ago, on this board but i never got started due to various real life problems. (damn real life messing with my gaming again!!)

I've downloaded the LRB2 , and read the whole thing.

Right now money is pretty tight, and i think im going to try and buy the box set off ebay used.

I've also seen a few things on ebay that are selling various teams, which seem to fit my budget better than buying them new at the local game store.

I think i've pretty much reserved myself to building a chaos team to start.

What im wondering is what is a "standard" amount of Gold to start with for leuages?

Also if someone could take a few minutes and tell me what a decent Chaos team looks like, so i know what figs to try and pick up i'd be greatful.

Normally, with most games, i just buy a bunch of stuff, and play test it for awhile, but money is -VERY- tight recently, and im hoping i can save myself some money if i know what im looking for -beforehand-

any addtional advice would be helpful as well.

Thanks in advance.

Most people go by the suggestion in the LRB, 1,000,000 GPs

Personally, I'm planning to pick up 11 WHFB plaguebearers to use instead of beastmen. They have horns and look good - I don't like the BB beastmen.

Anyway, remember that Chaos is one of the most difficult teams to coach, at least in the beginning. If you want to do some bashing with an easier team, orcs, dwarves and undead are all reasonable alternatives.

Almost every league has a starting level of.... [Dr. Evil voice]1 meeelian gold crowns![/Dr. Evil voice]. Never heard of a league that doesn't.*

I don't play Chaos myself, but a recent thread in 'T&TD' (http://www.talkbloodbowl.com/phpBB2/vie ... php?t=8720) suggested either

If you are limited to the minis that come with the team box try:
3 CW
8 Beasts
2 RR
8 FF
As for minis, you could get the Chaos All-stars boxed set from ebay or GW (£20 - don't know how much in $). If I were starting a Chaos team, I would order individual sprues of the plastic WFB beastmen/chaos warriors from mail order, and convert them by chopping of the weapons. Better models; cheaper! Remember to specify "filled" round slottabases though, or order some seperately.

Good luck - welcome to Blood Bowl! :D

I wouldn't recomend A dwarf team for a nebie to the game. Looks like Nazgit has the roster covered. If you are looking to get 16 minis for a full roster it would be better to get bits from GW. If you are limited to the Team box it doesn't leave you much room to grow.

Hiya,

I was thinking i'd get the Chaos boxed team.. then buy a couple extra beastmen (which im guessin the only way to get them is gonna be through GW.. and i dont wana buy booster packs just to get ONE beast each!!)

Whats the deal with apocarthys ? They just never bothered to make any apoc mins for BB? So we just use a wizard and suck it up ? hehe

Per Balrogs thread in the Team Dev thread i was thinkin this:

STARTING ROSTER:

11 Beastmen
4 Rerolls
6 Fan Factor

or

10 Beastmen
1 Chaos Warrior
3 Rerolls
9 Fan Factor

for some reason that first one seems like an interesting idea to me.. 2 extra rolls per game seems like a nice way to cut down on the random-screw rolls... again though im a total noobie at this point so im just guessing.

Also why is "chaos hard for a noob to play" ? Seems like its the most -simple- to play.

I'd start with at least 2 CW and FF9 - everything else is pretty much personal preference. I have started with 4 CW before but it hurt in the long run...

They are difficult because you have nobody who is a natural ball carrier or thrower. Equally they have nobody who starts with the Block skill. It takes a long time for a Chaos team to develop into something you can consistently rely on... you need the re-rolls very much early on.

I started out with 1CW and three re-rolls just like your 2nd roster plan and I can recommend it.
Just don't forget to give a BEastman Sure Hands skill asap.

Yeah it's the same for Wizards, Apocotherys (sp?), Coaches and Assistant Coaches, in the LRB 2 it mentions just to use normal WFB minatures.
