Ok, bringing this back to Lizardmen:

This is my basic defense for the lizards. The weakest point of this setup is the widezones, where virtually anyone can strike through. Another variation on this setup could look like this:

This setup will make the opponents rush through more to the middle which can be good but the negative aspect being that more players will get through your lines.

Anyone have other ways to set up?

I don't know how you do the graphics, but I tend to use the first one but with a Krox in the centre and the skinks further up.. The freed Saurus helps out the ball carrier.

Actually it was never off Lizardmen.

But anyway, the first setup is a good setup against a strong team. And the second setup is good against a more agile team (trying to blitz through on the sides and meeting strong Saurus there). Against a very fast team like Skaven or Wood Elf with many Gutter Runners/Catchers, I would back some Lizards even more. I would probably put the skink and the saurus who are in the middle field a few squares back. Or else the Saurus would only just reach a 9 MA on the side, having to GFI to blitz, and also push in the wrong direction.

I usually put four saurus on the scrim on this way SS SS (krox usually fills the space in the middle) and two S on the wings two or three squares away from scrim line. Skinks are back.
On defence against weak teams I try to spread those four sauruses leaving spaces btween them (S S S S or S S K S S if you have krox.) but always leave two sauruses & all skinks back. Only put once my skinks on the scrim... I received the ball and the op. had 2 treemen... I thought it was best to dodge than to try to reach st 6 twice.

I assume he uses the other two Saurus as protectors. But it would be nice to have a third free one that can be used to move free and blitz. They have pretty good move for ST4.

Usually I play with 4 skinks and they take care of themselves. I stablish a kind of elven formation using their zones to avoid direct hits to the ball carrier. Of course, once scrim line of the oponent is break I use saurus to build a kind of "secure perimeter" for the little running ones. Saurus on the wings usually are used to hit and put zones to avoid fast players who could hit the ball carrier on next turn... once blitz has been done I use to put them in places that force dodge moves to reach skinks.

My standard tactics with a developed team is to have the 2 Saurus boys on the LOS to break tackle out to protect the ball carrier along with another 2 at least already back. The Krox holds up the front line as best he can. The skinks get up the pitch although one holds back in case a handoff is needed. Hopefully the pocket holds a pass is successful and a TD is scored. On defence the Suaruses rush the ball carrier as the ball is kicked short. The team was poor to start but is really coming on using these tactics and now the Sauruses have skills.

The difference between your style and mine is that I never try a pass (well in some desperate cases I do). Skinks are really bad at passing the ball... If I can I avoid hand off too... just run... they usually need only two turns to score (one hand off if the ball is really back on the pitch). On my defensive game I use skinks as meat walls (all in front of the ball carrier) and as blitzers. Sauruses still don't have break tackle but two of them will have it as soon as they get it's second skill (as I said Block goes first).

Well all this is very well if you have players.
I lost a game to the Skaven yesterday 4-0. I started with 5 saurus and 7 skink available (1 skink was on the sidelines after injury in the last game and 1 skink was retired after he broke his neck). I ended the game with 3 saurus and 3 skink on the pitch, 1 saurus in the knocked out box, 1 badly hurt saurus and 4 seriously injured skink. I won 50,000 and as such have 9 players starting in the next game.

Ouch! But was the other coaches team much higher rating? Normally I would not think a Skaven team could crush a Lizardmen at about the same rating. Especially since Skaven only have two Blitzers. Maybe it was a really unlucky game?

Do you have apo? how many saurus do you start your team with? I only had one match with so many injured... was 3rd ed. against one DE team full of Dirty players. Never lost against skaven... did you play LRB? How many matches have you played with your team? Some of this questions will help me to know why did you loose.

I only play 5 saurus as I play more of a running game and just use the saurus to punch a hole for my skinks.
Yes I do have an apoc, which is why I didn't have any dead skink.
His team was a higher rating, by about 15 so I got 1 roll on the handicap table - "Make Mine a Blood".
He hired Headsplitter specially for the game, who I managed to Bdly hurt about 3/4 way through 1st half but I already had a Saurus knocked out and 1 saurus badly hurt. I was also unlucky with a few dice rolls and 70% of his injury rolls where 9+ approx.

Well, your way of playing is different than mine. I play with more st so I can stand without fear in front of one skaven tean with Headsplitter and one Rat ogre. It is true that luck on rolling armour is decisive, but it is sure too that 5 saurus aren't decisive if he played two RO.
I never use apo on skinks, specially if I have more than 4... If they kill or injure your sauruses, then your skinks will be without protection. And remember how hard is getting Xp on sauruses, so have then killed is worse than loosing a pair of skinks.
Against fast teams you sould play hard, so get saurus and krox ASAP, against st teams, just run with your skinks.
