o.k., I see there are more and better dwarf coaches than I know and they are quite successful. So sorry for me to think otherwise

Chet:

I thought this was more about ball-handling and the number of ball-handlers and not about the many advantages the dwarfs surely have. No complains here! :smoking:

Nevertheless, the darkelf coaches did pretty well with "only" two blitzers and I wondered why they needed four to compete.

The norse blitzers can have this Jump up/piling on combo (grrr) and they get four of these guys now!!

The undead...you know

Were/are the dwarfs that good that they didn't need a change?

DE and HE only had 6 position slots and no Big Guys.

And Norse have always had 4 Blitzers, there was just a typo in the 2002 Annual.

ups, a only a typo?? So, please ignore that part!

With respect to the DE, yes, only six position players! Two runners, two slayers, two blitzers also make six for the dwarfs.

IMO, the DE were fine with the six slots, even without the bigguy.

So, why was there no change to give the DE (and HE) access to a bigguy instead of two additional blitzers? I think this makes a very big difference...

and back to the original question: dwarfs, are they fine as they are??

Thadrin posted yes they are.

But then this means that they were slightly better compared to other teams before these amendments! Is this correct? Was there a shift of balance although the teams are balanced? :o

As has been mentioned, the Dwarfs got Ogre access this time around.
And Longbeards are the best starting linemen in the game, with Guard they're pretty awesome at just 6SPPs.
And did I mention the cheap re-rolls?
Dwarves are fine, in fact they're certainly amongst the very best 'out of the box'.

ST4 slayers on a doubles roll? :o

I fear for a world where a good Dwarf coach has Dragon Slayers on tap.

I wrote a Dwarf tactics document for Blacknife's Dugout years ago. I should polish it up for 2k1 and submit it to fanatic. Might make a few people change their minds about how you play them.

Seriously though I think that's all that's needed. There's official articles written for most of the original teams. I think it's time to put together one for Dwarves.

Thads - Want a co-author credit? =)

ST4 Slayers on tap? The Munchkin in me (and lets be honest now, there's one in all of us...) say OH YES....the guy who likes a decent half balanced game says YOU WHAT?????

I think Deathwing managed to restrain himself a bit there. As I understand it what he really thinks about dwarves would turn the forum blue for a week.

Chet - Just don't go claiming that dwafs getting a death roller gives them a big guy at any stage...I refuse to count something with a penalty roll as a big guy. I like my Ogre fig too *sniff*

Marcus - Tell you what, you throw something together, I'll throw something together and we'll see where they collide?

Ok as i posted earlier and Acerak and a few others have pointed out, the big guy access was the reason for no other amendments to the roster.

I still think it was a rough deal compared to the extra options given too the High Elves/Undead & Dark Elves, but at least i can understand it.

I think possibly the solution may come with Secret weapons, such as access to the Deathroller and 1 other secret weapon. Now that definitely seems more in line with Dwarfs. While i accept this isn't going to change the ball handling characteristics at least it will definitely give the dwarfs a roster i can live with.

I would have thought under 2K1 that Dwarves are going to have got a bit better.

In my experience Dwarves start strong (lots of skills helps) and gradually get overtaken by the other teams.

Now that the ceiling on TRR is in place maybe Dwarves aren't going to get left so far behind. Has anyone got any practical experience of this?

Marcus - That article sounds great. Why not polish it and send it to Andy?

General note: We're still mulling over ideas for the Deathroller. Ideally, JJ would like it used as THE Big Guy for the team. But a BG with a penalty roll...well, he's really not a BG, right? And the damn thing just doesn't seem to work right without all the special rules like +6 to foul, the ability to ignore tackle zones when moving, etc. So it's tough. We're working on it.

I think a good set of Runesmith rules would really help. I like the rules suggested in the Finnish letter. You can check them out when the Mag is released later this month and judge for yourself.

Cheers!

I'd like to add that Amazons received neither extra position players nor a Big Guy.
