Side Step, Catch and Fireball.

Post by Kri »

I´m a member of a swedish league with over ten players. We play according to the newest official rules and have a few questions that I would appreciate if someone took the time to answer. :D

Can a player with sidestep ever be pushed of the field or can he just choose to be pushed to a occupied square. According to rules you don´t have to push someone of just because you can and therefore shouldn´t players with sidestep have to step out.

Can you use Catch skill on bouncing balls?

How big is the fireball template? We have ruled that it is 2x3 squares.

Thanks, Kri

As per the skill description:

"The player may not use this skill if there are no open squares on the field adjacent to this player".

So, you can push him out if there are no open squares for him to side step into.
Can you use Catch skill on bouncing balls?
Yes.

Ja, ett stort välkommen hit, Kri. Hälsningar från Atlantis Eternal League i Uppsala.

I alway s thought the Fireball should be 3x3....not that I'd thought that hard about it. 3 by 2 sounds weird as the original template was round.

According to the LRB (p27) you should use the kick-off coin provided in the box (the round thingy with an Orc face on one side and an Imperial Eagle on the other)
Center the coin on the intented square and check if any other players are partially or completely underneath it. Then... burn! :pissed:

Fireball template

There are different ways to place the template so you can cover 2x2, 2x3 or 3x3 squares.

It is possible to cover non-rectangular regions too, but if you don't have a template handy these grids are easier to remember.

Not if you follow the 3rd ed rules closely. The template must lie at least partially under the player's base. Any little bit does it. This means that it can cover any of the following areas:

2x2
3x3
2+4+2
3+3+2
3+3+1

Notice that it can't cover a 3x2 area. No matter where you place the template, it will always cover a player standing in an other square.

It should be noted that at one point there was discussion that the fireball spell would effect a target square and all adjacent squares to it for simplicity. This could easily happen in the October review.

Thanks for the help.

I knew the rules about the template. We just wanted a system with clear rules and 2x2 seemed too weak and 3x3 too powerful. With 2x3 you can hit part of the cage but not all of it...unless it´s a strange looking cage.

Thanks for the welcomes.
