Undead sucks in offence

Post by Fenryll »

Why i say that ???

Because yesterday i play vs Chaos Dwarf. There are 9 of them vs 13 of mine. And I lose 2-0.

It was impossible to score because, when i make a castle formation, i advance too slowly. And if I make a blitzkrieg, my players are too slow and i see the chaos dwarf bulls blitzing me because they could make easily 9 cases.

I don't know what to do

Undead crap at offence?
Go look at the results from the Tournament of the Tulips.
See that team that won 4-0 in three games? That's an Undead team. A straight out of the box undead team at that. God only knows what Marcus was on that weekend.

The simple answer is don't use the Castle (most people call it "the cage"). It doesn't work, as you have found. Its no more than a sound start to a play.

With that, I turn you over to Marcus who certainly knows a lot more about this than me.

i just played undead once for now, and i used a formation i can call "temporary cage" i play cage 2 or 3 turns with the mummy opening the way, then run one side or the other.
Then mummy will form the "back" of your offense, standing between ball carrier and the oppponnents you ve let behnind. Not sure if that s clear, but that the way i played them and it work.
Got to admit i m not a really experienced coach.

Quick few tips cos I'm rather ill at the moment :puke:

The cage doesn't score on its own, the cage is simply a formation to stop people blitzing your ball carrier. It doesn't advance itself and it's easy to shut down.

I'm gonna take a guess and assume you're suffering from the problem a lot of power coaches face and that's that you spend too much time beating on your opposition and not enough time planning the minimum number of blocks you need to open a hole and move your players through.

Gave similar tips to a Dwarf coach in another thread. Have a read of that for some further tips.

The 4-0 games I won in Amsterdam were mostly the result of scoring on Defence. I generally build my gameplay around turning people over. Ghouls and Wights are fast enough to take advantage of a good deep kick from a player with kick skill.

A bit brief, but the Dwarf tactics post linked above should give you some good ideas. The key point with power teams IMHO is that it's too easy to think "I'm a hitting team" not "I'm a scoring team". The game is won on touchdowns, not racking up casualties. Keep your eyes on the touchline and hit only what you need to and you'll find your scorelines improving.

Well I have had a ton of luck going with the cage(8-2 record) vs a sweep(4-5 record). The sweep was mainly an experiment to do something other than a cage, but maybe I'm not very good at anything else.

This is what I do when running the cage for the entire game. If I win the coin toss, I kick off. If I don't win, I usually kick off anyway. I then give the opposing team 4 turns to score. If they haven't gotten close enough by that 4th turn then I'm usually in a good position to get the ball away from them but that hasn't happend too many times since I usually let them score. Now on my turn 4, I usually get the ball back with enough time to score before the half is over. I cage up using my mummies as front anchors and push thru with my wights. I leave the zombies on the outside to pin the defense in next to my mummies. The skeletons are usually there to watch the backside and the Ghouls(not the ball carrier) pick up the slack where needed. I try to keep one Ghoul available for a handoff or pass should I be able to break thru to score. The key is not to let the cage get too compacted. That makes it so much easier for the defense to stall you out.

During the next half, I get the ball first slowly advance down the field(in a cage) and score with only 1 or 2 turns left. This usually puts me up 2-1 and sometimes I can get the shutout.

Good Luck.
