Do I have a variant second edition Ogre?

Post by Chairface »

I am familiar with Second edition BB figures, but I only have a handful. I just "talked" a friend out of an extra 2nd edition Ogre he had lying around. I thought that it would be a nice compliment for the Heresy Deathball Ogres that I just ordered. I was looking it up on Traveller's website, and then the Stuff of Legends site and it appears that I have an Ogre Player 2, but WITHOUT the mowhawk.

At first I thought that it was a conversion. I stripped the paint off the figure and I'm not so sure. If it is a conversion, someone did a masterful job. In addition the spike on his upraised hand is hooked over, but this would have been easy to do with the soft lead. Has anyone heard of a variant, or is it just a good "fake." ?

the bent spike is an old topic, some people have claimed that it didn't "look bent" and cited various reasons and observations of the quality of the metal for this, but i think the consensus was that bent and straight were the same guy. if he's got a different head.. well, tom's gonna have to sort that out i guess...

If you could provide a photo I (or someone else) could tell you more about it. I'm quite familliar with 80s citadel minis, but a distance diagnosis is always hard.

The advantages of two many lead figs. I was able to take an unbent hook and perfectly duplicate a hooked version with it so that killed that.

As for the missing mohawk ... never heard of that and I'd be surprised if it was real ... but it could be.

Maybe it was a bad cast and the rest of the mowhawk was filed off ? I think, this part to remove without a trace using the right tools ... and time... could be quite easy. But, as Narkotic wrote, without a detail pic it´s hard to tell.

I'm guessing that you are right Traveller. If none of you have heard of a variant it probably doesn't exist.
